I personally think the quality and detail and sheer beauty of the older era outshine that in the new.

In this poll I'm not meaning which would you like as your family car or which you feel is best for you today, but what really are the shining stars and stand out amongst the many produced.

I picked 1960-1979, but what I really like is limited basically to 1964-1971.  I also like a lot of cars before this time period (especially the 1930s and 1950s) but the muscle cars from the late 60s and early 70s are my favorite.

For me, the 80's > Late 90's.

The Era of the Ford Escort RS Turbo, Sierra Cosworths, the first BMW M3 & M5, The Audi Quattro , Porsche 959, Ferrari F40... I could go on and on.

The 80's & 90's were wonderous years for petrolheads, I cannot envisage Ford creating a mordern day Cosworth, Ferrari beating performance for relative peanuts to buy, the days of "Homologation Specials" Such as the Sierra Cosworth , M3 & Audi Sport Quattro's are ,sadly, long behind us.

Also, the era when things such as ABS brakes, Airbags &  traction control started to become commonplace on cars, along with proper "crumple zones" being designed into cars the safety increases were staggering in this era. these improvements have saved many a life!

The era of the Ferrari F40 and the Jaguar XJ220, never has the style or design of an auto come quite as close to perfection as it did with those two cars.
