Studded Tires

Postby BFMF » Mon Nov 14, 2005 3:19 pm

The use of studded tires has been a controversial issue for a while now, and since winter weather is already starting to appear, I thought I would bring it up here. What do you all think about studded tires? Do you think they should they be banned altogather, or only allowed in areas that are susceptible to exceptionally bad winter weather?

I've never seen much of the supposed damage that studded tires cause. It never appeared to me that the damage done to the roads was any worst than what large trucks would do and certainly the damage is far less than a snowplow would do. I'd use them, especially if it meant getting food, medicines or fuel to heat the home.

I have a Chevy 4 X 4, so snow isn't to much of an issue. But even a 4 X 4 is darn near useless on ice. In my case I'd be using chains if ice conditions warrant.

;D

We haven't been getting as much snow here in Ohio as we used to in previous years like 15-20 years ago....so I really don't worry about that sort of thing as of yet.. ;)

The only damage I've ever seen studded tires doing to roads is when someone womps on it spinning the tires is it leaves white marks like lines of chalk.  I use them, and they really help me out in the winter.  With them, I don't have any problem with ice or snow.

Studded tyres are no good, you can't get the tail out on the ice.....  ;D

I don't feel they should be banned, more I feel people should use common sence when using them.....

Only ever used snow chains once (on my truck) iirc, they wrecked the trucks mudguards.....
