An idea for F1 qualifying

Well anyone who watches knows its both boring and completely pointless to have a session on saturday.
However having just read the new format for the Indy 500 i have adapted it to work with F1.
Bumping. Basically you go back to the old 60 minute 12 lap system. perhaps adjust it to 40 minute 9 laps to make it a bit more exciting. On saturday every car goes out to decide the top 10 places, those who make the top 10 will then remain in the holding cell like normal till the race. Those who didnt make the top 10 will then battle it out for the positions 11 through 20 in the sunday session again either a 40 min 9 lap session or 60 minute 12 lap session. The whole idea would make saturday exciting as you wouldn't be able to risk sitting around with an average time till the end hoping to get a top 10 spot and you would have cars out on track most of the time rather than 1 after another. And sundays which is rarely shown on tv anyway would also be more exciting with cars battling for the highest possible positions.

I'm getting fed up with all the changes, so lets do it this way - it'll only take a couple of minutes, and ITV won't have to interupt the Saturday schedules to fit it in...

You write each drivers name on seperate pieces of paper, get a hat.... ::) ;)

It'd save fuel and rubber too...

old system yes old cars yes. wont happen sadly.
I dont know why people care that its been changed so much, it doesn't harm the viewers. The 12 lap system used to work very well and the only reason they got rid of it was for commercial tv stations, to give them time to goto ad breaks. it was certainly more exciting than the crap they have now. They say its an average of the two times together, no it isn't the only time it effects a cars time is when they screw up. Other than that the times on sunday are almost identical to saturday thus making it pointless to watch saturday.

that would suck for people who didn't make the top ten (more engine and tire wear)

Thats the whole point. It makes the drivers mechanics and team work as hard as possible during both sessions. Right now saturday qualifying is a hassle for most.

however for the remainder of the year it could just be saturday single lap, which make sense.
