What with gas prices skyrocketing (in the US anyway) I am seriously considering doing this- http://electroauto.com/. Thoughts, comments?

Once it hits $5 a gallon a lot of the fools driving hummers and other SUVs when they don't really need to and polluting the world will pay! That will be great!

You know, I can't image someone needing to drive a Hummer.

electric = coal consumption

Nuclear power plants.

hydrogen = water consumption

Nope. The remaining stuff from the combustion goes into the atmosphere and enters the water ciculation again.

Correct, but the technology required for Hydrogen vehicles has not fully developed yet and what does exist is extremely expensive. Even if Hydrogen cars were available now hardly anyone would buy them since they would be so expensive.

And BTW:

Doctor Shoe, please check your facts.

The very simple balanced equation for Hydrogen combustion:

2h2 + o2 ---> 2h2O + energy

Please note that the only byproduct of this reaction is water.

I highly doubt we will be hyrdogen cars common within the next 50 years.  Not only is it a new technology and very expensive (like comp_rock said) but it would require a ton of new type fuel stations to be put in.  All the gas stations would have to be converted into hyrdogen stations, this would require new technology in shipping and containing and all kinds of new regulations.  Plus, there are many powerful people with big money (those who make a profit by selling oil) who will do everything in their power to make sure this doesn't happen.  So, I just don't see this becoming a reality in the forseeable future.

I'm tired and I've got my head full of physics stuff.
[/Bad excuse mode]

We've got enough water on this planet, so the hydrogen combustion is a very good idea.
