Dakar 2005

Postby Ivan » Fri Jan 07, 2005 8:08 am

Man what a mess:
- Fuel shortage (people walking 5km to get to the last checkpoint for fuel pickup...)
- About 1/4 of the teams arrived at the finish, the rest had to spend the night in the desert
- Lots of crashes for the cars
- Near deadly crash of one of the Dutch trucks. Stopped centimeters from the edge of a cliff...

This was the stage with the mines... Bekx  lost his rear axle last year on this one.

They cancelled todays stage because the majority of the drivers didn't arrive yesterday night

Bad news... someone died in hospital after a crash in the long 7th stage...

Good news: Dutchies 1st (de Rooy) and 2nd (Bekx) before the Russians in the trucks category (that's what Dakar is about... not the stupid cars and the mentally disturbed guys on the motorbikes)
