Another question...

Postby Jared » Sun Nov 21, 2004 8:15 pm

Recently the service engine soo light has been coming on intermittently in my truck, and I wasn't sure why it would come on sometimes but not all the time.

So I took it to the local autozone and had them run their diagnostics through my computer.

Turns out I need to replace the camshaft position sensor 64.99

and the crankshaft position sensor 7.99

Since the truck is still in my dads name I figured I better check with him before I bought the parts, and so I didn't buy any yesterday...

He told me that if I could easily find/remove the sensors that I should just do it myself..(Just what I wanted to hear!)

I have the chilton book for the truck, however it does not tell me where I could even begin to look for these sensors, kind of odd...any clues?

I figured that I could try reseating the plugs/sensors and see if that helps any before I go out and buy more parts that i don't need...

Here's the info:

1997 Chevrolet
2.2L 4 cyl. w/ air
Manual 5 speed
2- wheel rear drive

Back to the question though, Can I even get to these sensors? It seems to me like they would be actually part of or screwed onto the engine block as they monitor vital engine statistics, adn it is very hard to get to most of the actual engine block with the a/c unit and everything else crammed under the hood.

Would I be better off taking it somewhere, or is this something that I should be able to concievably do myself?
