Stupid Old Cars

My sister plays water polo for her hs (where I used to go) and they have weight-lifting sessions during the summer-since I am a former player and know everyone-I have been invited to come. Yesterday we were going over there (to the hs) and decided to take my '69 Camaro since nobody on the team had seen it. I get about 3 blocks from the school (I had driven about 5 miles) when I feel the car start to run funny. Suddenly, I start getting some white smoke in the cab-coming from the dash (plastic-smelling smoke). I pulled over to discover that I had burnt up a fusible-link due to a short somewhere in the main wiring harness. Long story short, most of the weight-lifting plans for the team was cancelled, instead they got their workout by pushing my car down the road and into the high school parking lot (then we all lifted for a little while).
In the end, I had to have the car towed back to my house. I need to find the short in the system, fix it, and then splice in a new fusible-link (basically a wire with an internal non-removable fuse, desiged to melt in half in the event of a short). Unfortunately, there are a ton of wires I need to check to find the problem and in all likelyhood I'll miss a car show this weekend as a result. :(
