wow, what a season of racing we have in store for us.  NASCAR rule changes, new CART ownership, 2 new tracks, plus one old one back and many challengers for the title for F-1, IRL new rules plus a new track and a revamped one.  oh ya 2 new tracks for CART-seoul, las vegas.

is anyone else as excited about this year as i am?
the first race is sunday with the Daytona 500!

I have been a fan of Nascar for many years. Some buddies and I go to the race at Dover Delaware every Spring. I actually have a Daytona 500 Party at my house every year! Going out to get all the food tomorrow. I have a nice weekend set up. My wife is making me dinner on Saturday night for Valentines, (which is an event itself), then I we have about 20 people over on Sunday. Yes I am excited too!
Unfortunately I can't go to the Dover race this year! My wife is expecting our 2nd child that week. I don't think she would appreciate me tailgating in the Dover fairgrounds while our little package decided to arrive!  :o
I am considering the race in October though.

yes NASCAR is cool, but its a little overdone isnt it?  i've been a fan from texas 01'(strange,i never thought about it, but that was the race right after Earnhart died).  whos your favorite driver?me-Dale Jarret.why?-he almost won that Texas race, and showed the best overall performance.  although my all-time favorite driver is De Ferren!

by the way, how much do race tickets cost?
i ask because i's like to go to the Kansas indy 300, and id like to see what NASCAR  prices are like

I have felt that myself. Since it is an international forum, the Formula cars seem to get allot of chatter when the bigger traces come. You know, Nascar is for beer drinking rednecks!  ;D  
It is actually amazing that it is the biggest money industry in the American sports arena. Bigger than football and baseball. I guess since Nascar doesn't have the "jock" image, people don't consider it a sport.

Anyway, tickets are usually $98 for the Sunday race. If you arrive on Friday, you can watch the qualifying races and time trials for $15. Then on Saturday, you can get the Busch series race for around $45. You should really try to go. Seeing it live is incredible. The speed, the smell, the entire package! It is truly very exciting!!

at the risk of getting my behind whooped. I find nascar a little boring, going round ovals, lap after lap after lap. i know its not all like that but mainly it is. I prefer F1 which some people seem to think has become stale and boring because of ferrari and Schumacher in particular. Sadly these people are ignorant to the fact they are seeing a true legend. They hear all these names spurted out being greats, Fangio, Senna, Mansell, Stewart, Hill. and they say oh i wish i could have seen them race, they fail to realise they are watching in Schumacher a driver who is much better than all of those.

Ok, Ill admit it, I have been several different people in this forum before, and i was one of those who say F-1 is boring because of shumi.  but really, think about it fly2e, if jeff gordon won every race wouldnt it get boring?

i will give nascar credit for the fact its close racing style means a number of differant winners.
I am not really having a go at those who say schumi makes it boring(although it comes across that way) obviously differant people want differant things from Motor racing. why cant shumi retire while hes ahead?

by the way, WOW what a Daytona 500.  my cable station offered a free in car preview for the race, has all the telemetry and in car cameras for 7 different drivers(waltrips crash was interesting from his helmet cam).  not worth 100$ though!

Sadly I have to disagree Damon Hill was no match, although his mixing with F1 politics was unfortunate and did terminate his career well before his time. I think the only british driver of recent times who could have challenged Schumi, was Nigel Mansell. Schumi will be seen in the future as a legend of motorsport and rightly so. Im looking forward to the new season more to see if the racing is going to become closer and to see the new tracks ..... Heres to a season as close as last years!!

The problem with mansell and schumi, was that schumis career was just taking off as mansell's was ending, Damon Hill and schumacher had many good seasons against each other, and it was prooved by Schumi that he saw Hill as a threat when he took Hill out deliberatly to win the championship, and then tried it again but failed the year after.

I have actually seen all these great drivers race & many more besides. I agree that Michael Schumacher is in a class of his own right now but to say he is the best of all time is debatable. I'm not sure he could have handled the cars that people like Fangio did. Maybe he could have but we shall never know that. Motor racing was far more dangerous in those days although the cars were just as fast.

Like it or not, most people watch motor racing hoping to see an accident. I'm not accusing anyone of wanting to see anyone hurt but a big pile up is undoubtedly exciting. I could be wrong but from some of the comments in another thread this seems to me one of the main attractions of the oval circuits.
