Disgraceful!!... Your Opinion?

Postby BLAZE » Wed Jan 15, 2014 11:30 pm

Please tell me.. why do these obviously talented auto reconstruction specialists
disgrace those beautiful classic cars with those (in my opinion) UGLY modern rims.
And please, don't say for the handling!

This is a SIN!!

Image

And THIS!

Image

DISGRACEFUL!!

Thank god it's an easy fix. I'm just curious why they would do such a thing.

I'm not looking for an answer per say, I'm just looking for your opinion on this atrocity.

To say the least it takes away from what a vintage auto was then, and is supposed to be now. Doesn't look so hot either. I'd say a true vintage enthusiast would know better.

"Vintage" means "all original". If the original parts of whatever you own, be it an auto, a guitar, etc., can't be preserved or just have to be replaced for some reason, you would/should
try to use replacement parts that look like the original.

It ceases to become a "Vintage Motor Car", and it becomes classed as a; "Special".

NOT my opinion but a Fact !

usually because they don't know any better, and their a younger bunch.

and from what I've witnessed at car shows for many years this style trend of those wheels started taking place more and more in the mid to late 1990's era.

usually and it started with the Minorties, mainly the Mexican / Spanish people started the craze and it drifted over into the Black Gang Culture and the Wannabe Black White culture,,, is a kinda way of putting it.

Big Huge Wheels on little tiny Tires that you can feel every bump in the road and crack, and in short time ruins your suspension componets, but, they are NOT worried about that aspect, as their more into that Boom Box that takes up the entire back area which is coupled to the $2500.00 to $10,000 dollar stereo they have installed so can can THUMP when driving thru the neighborhood and as a signal their in the hood to do Business !

The days of having Blowers and narrowed rear ends are gone, with 15" by 33" McCreerys tucked up under the fender wells and a chrome or polished Weind 6-71 Blower gleaming out from under your hood putting out pure raw horsepower with a Drive belt that'd make another show for itself !

Centerline wheels, they'd have no idea what those are, or a Moroso, and I doubt they'd know what an Edelbrock is .

A New generation has took over and have no idea what their doing, tho - they think they do !

Their more into the Cheaper Cheesier look of the Low Life Gangsta look, which they think for some reason is neat lookin, somehow its supposed to represent that it represents them, somehow as they stand beside their ride with their Pants down to their knees and their Fruit of the Looms showing to everybody , with their shoes untied and their ball hat turned sideways ??????

Handling,,, they know all about handling,,, a Glock , straightline and high speed corners , they only worry about when their being chased !

New Generation of car owners all I can tell ya, who do things differently , BUT, were we really any different with our Mag wheels sticking out of the fender wheels, Carbs poking out the hoods and the ass end up higher than the front ???

IMAGINE what our Elders thought of us back in those days,,, why were just a bunch of foolish fools ( white boys) ruining a car like that, whats wrong with them boys my lord, can't tell us nothing,,, ruined a perfectly good automobile we did according to them !

I can hear it already :):):)

to each their own , everybody has different style , tastes , I don't care for it, myself, but then it ain't my ride its theirs !!

fix it up how ya want,,, whatever suits your tastes,,, wanna look like a fool go ahead,,, paint your Buggy Pink with Purple and Green stripes and stick lawn mower wheels on it,,,, you'll have to deal with the looks and remarks and the fun poked at ya , not me,,, you !!!

Some people can truly screw up a crow bar in a sand pile without even trying !!!

Ohhh well to Each their own !!

Personally I think those over sized rims and low pro tires make any car look like it was built by Matchbox. Funny you would mention it being a "minorities" thing. I lived in Detroit for a couple of years back in '03 to '05 and I saw that the Brothers would hang those rims on anything. Heck sometimes the rims and tires were worth three times what the car was worth. Do you know you can lease those rims for your ride? They're so expensive some dudes can't buy them so they rent them. It always cracked me up to see a car with expensive rims and low pro tires sitting in front of a two bit flea bag apartment. Yeah buddy, you really impressed that hot babe with your ride right up until the moment you pulled up in front of your ghetto digs. Ha-HA!!! Sometimes I crack myself up!

Dunno' what happened to "STYLE & CLASS" , this younger generation seems to think that acting and looking like Degenerate low life Trash, somehow makes them look Stylish ???

Pants down around their knees, their pretty girlie underwear showing, which is a prision thang,,, how it got started,,,,

shoes untied,,, stupid Graffitti tattoo's all over their necks, arms, legs and other places,,,,

they way the talk, in E-Bonic Slang,,,, Yo' ,,,,,, momma,,,

their dumb hand signals,,,,, like they've got that uncontrollable disease ????

and the way they dress up and attempt to customize their automobiles,,, they'll take a 500.00 to 1200.00 auto,,, and stick 3500.00 to 5000.00 dollars worth of the dumbest stupidest looking wheels you could ever imagine on the junker, and drive around with their BOOM boxes blarring that RAP / Hip hop NO Talented SCRAP IRON Music,,,,

and their taste in Music,,,, I've yet to see any of those RAP / Hip Hop artists actually play a REAL MUSICAL Instrument, NOT the Guitar, the drums, trombone, flute, Sax, banjo', nothing,,,,

just stand in front of the camera and wave their goofy arms around, pants down around their knees,, jumpin around like they got fire ants in the pants,, and attempt to tell us,,, that's Talent ?????? What ??????

If that's TALENT - my Dog would've been a major hit for any record label then !!!!

Dunno' , its a totally Lost, confused, mixed up, Twisted Generation we have nowdays with NO Style, Class or , RESPECT for themselves, others or Society, and it shows !!!

Wonderful!

Jet....

You've accurately described our modern generation to a "T"....!

Imported from parts of the the USA!

Its enough to make one despair of human nature!
Its sickening to watch them acting their little fantasies out!

You certainly got it nailed, Jet!.... ...!

We have; "Guys", "Cool", "Dude", "Awesome", and "Oh, my Gawd!", and the stupid hand gestures, etc, over here now!

My opinion is that - if the car can be found in a junkyard then what the hell!!

No real super special classic such as a Bugatti or Ferrari would ever lie rusting in a scrapyard -- except when it's been crashed and is broken for spares.

People have customised cars since cars started driving on the roads (or dirt tracks) ..... There used to be a multitude of coachbuilders ....

At the end of the day - my opinion -- is that it depends on just HOW special that car is. And if it's been rescued from a scrapyard then that's great!

However there is always good taste and ... well .... not so good taste ...

To be honest, I'd take Ol' Rose any day over one of those Hip Hop, Gansta rim jobs depicted above. At least the Owner put some time and creative effort into it!

Personally, I always liked the old Cragar S/S rims; classic but sporty.

Maybe it's the age talking, but you guys talk like this hasn't been going on for 20 years now! I lived in all the rough parts of my Northern California town, and I must say that this has been happening for some time here. I owned a 1970 Chevelle, but sadly never got to finish it. It was stolen. It looked like hell, but ran great.

A neighbor owned a 1970 Cutlass and had it painted, big FAT stereo, all new interior, and those wheels and tires. To complete the ensemble, the car couldn't turn without grinding those $250 low-profile strips of rubber on the inner wheel wells. It wasn't a problem for long, though. Bonehead crashed it into a telephone pole in the middle of the night "spinning a doughnut" in a 3-way intersection, which is just as good as it's other potential fate:internal engine trouble. Those tragically mid-informed and uneducated welfare check collectors concentrate solely on the superficial that they never bother to check the oil in their doomed ride. Fortunately, however, the car will usually stop running when the leak goes away, thereby saving the environment and all the young, impressionable ones the harm that thinking "this is ok" May cause.

YIP, that was my 50th Birthday present to myself, by Accident really !!

Went out to get a 20.00 gas cap at the dealer for my Jeep Liberty and somehow ended up with this just add a few more zero's to that 20 and that's what I picked it up for an even 20 !! CASH !!

Sittin in my garage with a car cover over it, think I've only put maybe 500 miles on it since I purchased it last August 2013

Not real sure why exactly I purchased it, other than I wanted something to remind me of my 50th Birthday , years down the road !

great car really,, wanted an older one really from the early 70's, but most were wayyyy out my league financially, up in the 50 to 70,000 dollar range, and I ain't doin that no way,,, unless the seat covers come included with her permanently !!!!

Vroooommmmmmm !
