Hello Matt...

Problem with the Daily Mail Site at the moment!

Yep...

I owned a 1948, 998cc Series B/C Vincent HRD Rapide, V-Twin.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/1951-vince ... rapide.htm

(Mine had "HRD" on the tank).

Spent most of its life attached to a 4-seater Busmar Sidecar, transporting me and the Family all round the countryside, (giving the drive chain a very hard time!)!
One of the most troublesome British Bikes I have ever owned!
Many disastrous mechanical breakdowns on the road...glad to get rid of it!
Lots of good mechanical ideas when new....But lots of mechanical failures after a few years and miles have passed!
Looks nice for posing, and photographing, but that's about all!

Trying to kick-start it can result in heart attacks!...(bloody Magnetos!).... ...!

My nicest British bike was my BSA 650cc Super Rocket Twin: A real Café Racer!
It would be nice to still have it,...but "nostalgia" is a very-bad-thing...(as you know with your Austin MGB!).
I will be sticking to my Japanese Bike "stuff" now...(push-button start!)... ...!

Paul....with three Jap Bikes at the mo'... ...!

I bought the Vincent for £100 in the 1950's, and sold it as a basket case for £6,000 in the 1980's...glad to see the end of it!

..reached the limit of post; "Editing"!... ...!

I love my Motor Bikes.
Been riding them every day since 1950 (on my 16th Birthday), and still riding them every day now...(getting cold and wet...but happy!)... ..!

The nearest thing to flying an open cockpit, Sopwith Camel*

Paul.... ...!

* probably.... ;) ... ;) ...!

Now that must be the best quote I have ever heard when describing the thrill of riding a bike

I got rid of my bike three months ago. Sold it because I never had the time/money to ride it anyway. Still miss it. Had a talk with a co-worker yesterday who collects old Moto-Guzzi's. He has two for sale (35+ years old). Was very tempting. But it would end up in the same way as the old Honda. Gathering dust in the shed...

I'm on the lookout for a ZXR-750 (probably a J1) in metallic blue as a project. She will be called Kwikasfaki :D

Wasn't that the same [kind of] motorbike Richard Hammond rode in one of the Top Gear specials, some years back, from London to... was it Edinburgh?

I remember him loving the ride... up until the weather first, the mechanical fiddlings then and for last his leg cramping finally killed his joy at about 100 miles away from claiming the loser... I mean last position in the race.
There is no such a thing as overkill. Only unworthy targets.
