Engine sounds

Can't whack the sound of a true vintage racer like the Napier Railton.

Even better is the unsilenced version, the Bentley-Napier.

I can't find a vid or sound clip so you'll have to imagine the wonderful noise, smoke & flame - not to mention the smell. 8-)

PS. I'll try to take a video clip at the 2007 Dunsfold Wings & Wheels event in August.

hopefully i'll be at this event too, its the one of the events that i'm going to make it to this year,
will be trying to persuade a friend to bring his very rare 125 down to the event aswell (matchless 125 of which he owns two that are in full riding condition) although he'll be in the car and i'll hopefully be on my bike.
might even try and convince a friend of mine to fly down there for the day and fly back  :)

Well it was a marine engine. I think however that recording was of one in a train.

It's an awesome engine. The .gif image of it working on wiki makes your head hurt.

I have some sound clips of the 1967 BRM with the H16 engine (two V8's sharing a common crank).  Impressive sounding engine.

Mh, no Leopard 2 sounds on there.
So I had a look into the M1 sounds and I found that thing sounded like an overdimensional hairdryer.

For those who don't know the M1 Abrams is powered by a turbine engine, hence the hairdryer sound.

I think Honda makes the best sounding 4-cylinder engines ever! I was listening to some sound clips of those babies. Plus my father's boss got a CR-V which might be dad's soon, that thing sounds great! So Honda 4-cyls, and American V-8s are my favorite.

Honda makes some pretty nice sport bikes and the S2000 sounds okay, but I wouldn't put them at the top of my list.  Their McLaren Honda F1 engine was a screamer (at near 1000 horsepower from a 1.5L) but the CR-V?!?!  I had a 1994 Civic, drove a 2000 Preleude and both were pretty pedestrian and I've driven Integra Type R's that sounded pretty decent.  But I wouldn't put any of 'em on the top of my list.  For four cylinders my favorites would probably be in the sport bike relm, although Lotus has some pretty nice sounding fours, the Elan, Elite, and Elise (a Yamaha designed mill) come to mind.  MGBs sound pretty nice too, and Formula Atlantics have a nice sound (IIRC they're running I4 Mazda engines now).
