Unfortunately, I can't find any info on it. What I remember hearing is that it was entered because there was no rule on the books against it, but it outclassed the rest of the pack so badly it was banned. I think it used a simple regenerative-braking system basically to add torque- lots of it- when passing.

Why in the hell would you do a diesel race car?
Because if it wins, the public will be deluged with "look how good our diesels are" adverts on TV, and the VW group would hope for an increase in diesel sales across all their brands...
