Nova Restoration

Well, I am almost complete with building my house. It has taken me 5 years. Right now, I am almost done with making the basement into a full playroom for my two girls!

Here is what I am looking to do in the near future!

I had a 1971 Chevy Nova SS back in my early 20's.
I put allot of money and time into restoring it.
1968 327 corvette engine with 202 fuelies, Edelbrock Victor Jr. Manifold, Holley 650 dbl pumper, 12 bolt posi rear with 4:88 gears..
It would run mid 11's in the quarter mile track out in Easthampton!
Yeah, it was pretty sweet but very expensive to do at the age of 20!

I had it for 3 years before I pulled it apart again,

The ZZ572/720R is rated at 720 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 685 lb.-ft. of gut-wrenching torque at 4500 rpm. The short block is built with a 4340 forged steel crankshaft, shot-peened forged steel rods, forged aluminum pistons with full-floating wrist pins, stiff dual valve springs, and a louvered oiling windage tray. Our Deluxe ZZ572/720R ships with a 1090-cfm Demon four-barrel carburetor, tall-deck single-plane intake manifold, HEI distributor, aluminum short-style water pump, and 8 mm spark plug wires. Distinctive "572" cast aluminum valve covers complete the package. All you need is a GM Performance Parts lightweight starter to fire it up!

Looks like a good project...have fun with it Dave.  I also like the idea of the 327 small block.  You can basically make close to the same power as a 350 but it'' be more of a rever.  I'd prefer a high RPM motor in a light car like that.

Well, that and 110 octane leaded racing fuel at $6.50 per gallon (last time I checked).  Of course, it would be run to run up the drag strip with that motor    ...but it would be worthless on the street.

I think that is for the 720R version, the 620 version runs on pump gas.

Yeah, I know.  But, he put the 720R in the post which (if memory serves) has a 12:1 compression ratio and a monster cam.  The 620 has a 9.6:1 compression and therefor should run on pump gas (they rate it for 92 octane).

I personally think a custom built 377 small block would do nicely in this car.  You get good cubic inches but with the destroked crank, it still revs pretty well.  For a light car, that would be a lot of fun.

yup, or a 383 SBC stroker . . .big block power out of a small block

I was thinking a 383 stroker as well, but lately the 377 has been kind of intreging to me...especially in a lighter (I was thinking it would be fun in a 1st gen Camaro someday).  My problem with the 383 is they just don't climb in the RPMs like a small block, they truly feel like a big block minus the extra weight and handling problems.  But, with the 377...you are using that 3.48in crank from a 350 and the larger bore of a 400...so, you would think it would rev pretty nice.  In a smaller car, I think that would be a lot of fun.  You would probably lose in the low end torque against a 383...but I'll bet you'd make better RPMs and as a result probably better high end horsepower.  Just a thought though.

Plus, it seems like almost nobody builds a 377...so there is the unique factor as well.
