Postby machineman9 » Mon Jan 17, 2011 6:48 pm

I think I may actually have found it....

I've been driving for the past 7 months or so and I am insured on my mother's car (2003 1.6 Seat Leon S) and the insurance isn't particularly cheap... About

I'm beginning to think the easiest may be to get a driving license at 17, but then not drive for 5 years or so, then you'll have a 5 year clean license, although admittedly no NCB.

Either that, or place restrictions on drivers under a certain age, be it number of passengers, hp etc. Sadly there'll always be a daft minority though, a 17 or 18 year old who'll go and kill his mates and other innocent drivers doing a overtake in his full 1.2L Corsa at night on a blind bend. There'll always be the majority, the rest of us, who have to pay for it.

Not too long ago I contacted our local council to see what could be done to reduce insurance for people my age. Namely, run driving courses which the insurance companies will actually give you reasonable discounts for (PassPlus isn't accepted everywhere, and it might save you

I don't think I could live with the shame of that, even if they gave me free insurance and a mask to wear  ;D

I have been bouncing between the same three insurance companies since I passed 6 years ago.  Admiral, Bell and Elephant (which are in fact the same company).  Adding my mum and auntie to the policy,

I've had a bit of success just going on Auto Trader and going through all the cheapish cars to find the best insurance deal. Unfortunately, the cars with the cheapest insurance tend to be the more expensive cars... However, they are newer, lower mileage, better equipped, etc. Therefore I can only imagine it be more worthwhile to get a 'better' car and hopefully save money on servicing.

I had considered 'playing' insurance companies (going between the two with low quotes) but only LV is giving me a low quote to begin with.

I do live in a secured parking area, which is probably a cheap to insure location anyway. Though with LV adding more people to the insurance will raise the premium unfortunately.

Well the list of the secrets in holland is:

Don't get anything VAG related...  They get stolen too often and anything with driveable engine power is classified as high performance

Small cars that have a reputation as city cars have absurd high prices due to the high number of small accidents they have

Best prices you'll get on Saabs, with zero no claim years my 1300+ kilo turbocharged one was cheaper when compared to a Peugeot 206 with 1.6 engine.Volvo is also quite cheap as long as you stay away from the really high powered ones
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

Heres a couple of things I have learned,
Dont stay with the same company each year,
The more the car is worth the cheaper the insurance for young drivers,
Classic & American are the cheapest, I pay less than
