Your Turn?

Postby ShaneG_old » Fri Nov 20, 2009 5:44 am

I was reading an article on famous race circuits, and turns, and what makes them so...

I was wondering what you thought the best, most exciting, most challenging, personal favorite, most famous, etc... turns in motor sports are.

For me it would have to be:
- the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca
-the Karussell turn at the Ring,
-the Nouvelle Chicane at Monte Carlo.

I'll never get to drive them in real life, but at least in different racing sims, these three have required more practice from me than any others, in order to master them.

I can only imagine how terrifying it must be to run up on these at full speed in real life for the first couple of times.  :o  8-)

Why wont you get to drive them?? all of those places are open to the public at some point or another. Monte carlo admittedly is speed limited but, nurburgring and laguna seca do track days, you just have to convince yourself you need a vacation in california or germany ;)

I would have to go with the copse maggots and beckets series at Silverstone, Its one of the few corners that gets harder and more vital to get right the better F1 cars get. So much time to be had through there, and its as challenging as you can find.
Turn 8 at Turkey, I love the multiple apex corners, the sense of satisfaction you get in a game for doing them as fast as you can without adjusting is great.
Turns 1 2 and 3 at goodwood. Ever since my ride round it a few years back I have loved that track, and those corners especially were good fun. Turn 1 is a high speed corner with no run off that just seems to get faster and faster, 2 you have to carry a ton of speed into it but then brake for the sharp left, get it wrong and your off into the corn fields

Whist you are over doing this, we could pop down the Nordschleife (N

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Like Craig, I'd have to say Copse/Maggots/Becketts at Silverstone. I'd also like to take the Craner Curves full pelt at Donington. Church at Thruxton is challenging as is Paddock Hill at Brands Hatch (I've driven the last two in single seater race cars).
The Esses from turn 3 and 130R at Suzuka, Pouhon and Eau Rouge at Spa... I could go on all day!

Anyone for the Lausanne straight at Le Mans at 240mph?  8-)

Road Atlanta
Road America
Mid-Ohio

Three awesome, yet underrated, road courses.  IMHO.
