they just showed the wreck in the pre-race.  Wow.  Never seen anything like that.

Question that will never be answered is why a driver would speed up past other cars when there was a wreck?

But while sad, at least he was doing something he apparently dreamed of doing when he was killed.

I can only wish for something like that when my time comes.

I honestly think this was a case of a rookie on his first proper race day being nervous and perhaps having gotten little sleep the night before. Pointless speculating though, its just good that carpenter is ok at least. The telemetry from Dana's car showed he tried braking but it was only fractions of a second before he hit Carpenter.

From the opinions in the article you linked to Craig I expect it was just that. They'll be able to see the telemetry data. When its all happening around you I can believe it would be very easy to lose the bigger picture...
