Scot Speed (real name), has just tested a F-1 car for the Red Bull Drivers search to put an american into F-1 to become the next world champion.  Speed had the most speed in the Red Bull F-1 Car in Barcelona, he will also do the GP2 thing this year!

I don't think RBR are exclusively looking for an American (they tend to favour their well funded Europeans, since Mr Mateschitz is Austrian). I think it would be nice to see another driver from across the pond in IRL and Champ Cars having a crack at F1, as more often than not they've tended to be relatively unsuccessful (Michael Andretti, Cristiano Da Matta, Jacques Villeneuve ( since his World Championship Victory) ). Its only really been JPM and JV that have had any success...

There are a couple of IRL prospects i want to see in an F1 car. Tony Kannan, this guy is awesome with a car. Dan Wheldon(brit), gonna be the champ this year no question. Scott Dixon had a seat with Williams but the idiot turned it down and now hes an embarressment. I think Sarah Fischers driving style would have suited F1 and she would have been given a shot if her season wasnt so bad. And Sam Hornish Jr would be a really good driver in the F1 series.

It would be good tho see Dan Wheldon in an F1 car. 15 years ago he would have got a drive with no problems, but with the rich (rubbish) drivers we've had in the past few years he hasn't had a look in. Dario Franchitti is another who we should've seen in an F1 car, but now never will. Personally if I were them I'd stay in the US. F1 isn't worth the hassle for them...

Franchitti was given a shot in the past. I think it was Coulthard who got him a seat in Mclarens test car. Problem was Hakkinen at the time wasnt being clear about his future so Franchitti chose to try else where rather than risk not racing at all.
Wheldons only just starting out so he has pleanty of time. One of these two will get Coulthards seat when he retires should they so want it. With Red bull also having cars in the IRL the chance for a cross partnership is there. But i agree they would be best staying put.

Hmmm, all the american drivers you all just named have no pro-road course wins (except for franchitti).  Da Matta is not an american, neither is Dan Wheldon.

You want some great drivers for F-1?  Danika Patrick is reeealy fast.  I would also consider Mr Jeff Gordon.  I think hes got the stuff for driving faster than 190mph around road courses.  
Sam Hornish Jr is not a great driver, or at least I haven't seen the right stuff in him.  Kannan  would be an excellent F-1 driver, hes brave, consistant, smart, and most importantly brave.

To be a really good open wheel race car driver (like F-1), you must be willing to put your own well being on the line to go much much faster.  I learned this when I first watched the CART race from Surfers Paradise.  Seeing those guys throw their cars through the chicanes like mad men amazed me.

what Charlie said basically.
Plus F1 cars are not about throwing round corners as fast as possible. Its all about being precise and perfect. F1 cars are very unforgiving and if you over do it you find yourself in a wall or backwards.
I feel Hornish Jr is very good with dealing with traffic which is a plus in F1. Kannan is very good with making desicions he isnt the greatest in traffic and takes a few risks he shouldn't, but his quick desicions are key to driving an F1 car.

I mean throwing with precision.  It just appears like they throw their cars, because they go so fast
