how fast?

in your opinion, at what speed would you stop race cars from going any faster?  consider safety, and other stuff.

i would not slow any race cars down, because there are other ways to make racing safer, other than slowing them down.

I wouldn't slow them down.  The point of racing is to go faster than the other guy-for that reason they shouldn't be slowed.  If the driver was worried about his safety, they wouldn't be driving a race car.

Thats just my opinion.   ;)

dont forget that racing was origionally started to test new technology to the limit.  If all racing was like NASCAR(heavily restricted), we wouldnt get anywhere.

speaking of NASCAR, i figured out how to take off the restrictor plates on the cars for the 2004 game ;D.  makes internet racing for the demo at talledega fun ;)

Let them race...

Racing trucks are limited to 160 Kmh for driver safety.

Paris-Dakar vehicles are probably not limited... but don't jump dunes with a truc when going 160kmh or more

The trucks are restricted so much because they are so unstable.  and that doesnt stop them from taking off(think it was 99'daytona one flew into the fence and blew up)

There is more info  on this topic at speedchannel.com, an article by Dave Despain(AKA-wannabe bad boy of racing news)  he has some of the worse views ive ever seen, he proposed slowing IRL down to 200 at indy by putting a NASCAR like restricter on them....DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN!just a little contact and- chaos.

Speed limit? Not to exced the speed of sound. Let's not forget that car racing is strictly business. The promoters have to attract as many spectators as they can. Spectators want to see something spectacular, such as an occasional spin our or crash. If you want to increase safety? Make the track a 500 mile straightaway instead of a 2-3 mile oval. But then you have to load the spectators aboard buses so they can follow the race.

If NASCAR actually used true stock cars, they wouldn't have speed issues! >:(

About 250mph on the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans in the 80's as fast enough for me (then they put the chicanes in - boring!)

You yanks and your toy car racing  ;)
As has been proved time and time again in F1 (the only true test of man and machine apart from flight) that trying to restrict the performance of the cars only leads to the teams developing more technology to make the cars faster. The FIA are constantly trying to slow the racing down and make it closer ... Last years F1 season was the closest for years ... but it was faster than ever despite yet more restrictions on the cars. As with Le Mans the only way to slow things down is to tinker with the tracks.

NASCAR aside, I think the only thing that will place any sort of limit--is when the speed is to fast to see the advertiser's logos--this is where all the money comes from.  We're almost there with the F1s

I don't know how anyone can go to a Formula one race and see anything but 1 second of blur every lap.  You can only see the actual "race" on tv.

I believe in the future the only way to view races will be via tv (or what ever we have then)  Going to the race will do you no good except to say you were there.
