Questions for REX Customers

Postby Thud » Sun Apr 25, 2010 4:46 pm

Does REX (FSX) effect frame rates? Frames for me are fine with default clouds, but when I used the HDE clouds, the frames plummet dramatically. So does REX do the same?
That's sort of the deal breaker for me.

With REX you have a choice of 1024, 2048, or 4096 size cloud textures. Clearly, the higher the defintion, the greater the performance impact. But even their low-def versions look really good (IMO). I use the 2048 setting and notice no negative effects unless the cloud cover is especially dense (I have an i7 processor at 3.06 MHz).

Aside from the clouds, REX does a whole lot more. I especially like the realistic runway and taxiway textures that I now have. For tropical islands, their coral reefs look really great. And then there are the many choices for sunrise and sunset sky colors. REX lets you choose which aspects of your environment you want to change and which you want to leave alone.

I hate to sound like a REX salesman, but I think it is one of the best addons I ever got for FSX. In fact, it was the first one.

I use REX for my FS 2004, and it seems to have very little noticeable effect on my frame rates (locked at 20 FPS), even with my lowly computer system... :)...!

I find it useful for loading in real weather for the area I fly, and is surprisingly realistic according to the local weather forecasts in the area!
Nice water and ground effects, and the clouds are wonderfully realistic!

Paul....G-BPLF....FS 2004...and REX, GE Pro, and VOZ... 8-)...!

...I just use GE Pro to lighten/brighten up the scenery below (RGB settings)... ;)...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

It's rare to find an addon that doesn't take a little of your power - like an alternator on a car but the benefits from REX far outweigh any of that.

REX is like HDE, it will affect framerates depending on the resolution of clouds.  Its effects on frames seems smaller in FSX (probably because of optimization) than on FS9 though.
