North American photorealistic?

Postby Taubin » Wed Apr 01, 2009 12:19 pm

Hopefully this is in the right place.  Is there somewhere to get North American photorealistic scenery?

And, secondly, is it true that photorealistic doesn't have a very big performance hit?  Thank you for all the help.  I just want the US to look a bit better when flying :)

As of right now you can't find photo real scenery of the entire USA, but if you check the scenery section here at SimV you will find lots of photo real scenery of some beautiful areas.

As for the performance, photoreal is terrific because it doesn't use autogen scenery, it's not 3D so your frames stay rather low.

Taubin,

There are the Megascenery payware packs that cover some of the USA.  They do not cover all of the USA.... but have the northeast coast from mid- atlantic to Boston covered and almost the entire west coast.

Unlike most photorealistic scenery they also have SOME autogen on them.  FAR better than straight photo in y opinion.

The PCAviator webstore has them on sale now.... pretty cheap.

The main problem with them is they have only two seasons; summer and winter.

best,

Thanks John,

I do have one question, the scenery on the PC Aviator site are listed as FS 9, are they compatible with X?

I searched the megasceneryx site, but, didn't see anything on it. Thank you again for your help :)

There are so very many impressive scenery downloads available out there. I simply google and look at the results. Sometimes you'd be surprised. Quite a few times you'll find that the lesser known businesses provide a higher quality product at very competative prices.
I have recently bought a package from megascenery covering N.Italy, and was very disappointed. Barely an improvement on the stock scenery. So do a little research.
