Firstly, I do not have the aircraft that you are asking for help with, however I do work on 737's and PMDG are know for getting it right in their simulatations, so the sequence that I use is as follows.
Battery on
Ground power on (leave standby power as it is)
Left wing fuel pump, either one it does not matter.
APU squib check
Fire detection test
APU start switch to on.
Wait until low oil press illuminates and no blue maint light comes on.
Move APU start switch from on to start.
APU will start.
Once running and the GCU has checked the voltage, you will get the two APU bus lights turning blue. Two lights is a hold over from the 737 Classic when it had two buses. The NG has only one bus. Either of the switches will then power the APU bus. The second switch just turns the remaining light off (left over from Classic so pilots could jump form Classic to NG without new rating)
Once you have done this, you can select your bleed etc.
I would imagine that the PMDG will follow some of this in the sim.

Nothing like having some REAL aircraft expertise for answering questions!

Look below the ground power light, you'll see a little switch with the letters "GRD PWR OFF/ON" written above/below it. Hopefully that should work for you.
As expat said, turn on left fuel pump. If using APU for a long time, you can turn on left centre pump aswell...but I do believe PMDG 737 doesn't model APU fuel usage, not sure on that though

You should be able to start the APU on the battery without ground power, well you can in the real world. Are you following
this for a start up, if so it should be fine. One thing though, in the real world the standby power is always in the "Auto" position, it is never turned off as in this example.

If you go to the menu bar and look under PMDG options, you will see an option for "ground power available". Check that's on, and you should see that light illuminate.

Depends what it is, but it could vary from replacing the load control valve, delta "P" sensor, the generator to the APU itself for example...........sorry we are talking about a sim

Hi
I must admit that I have tried the set up you describe, and I can not reproduce your problem, but I was just thinking, have you got ANY failures enabled in the PMDG drop down menu, you may not have enabled them, but I does not follow that they are not enabled, FS can be funny that way.
As for not having ground power available, can you tell me which airport and stand you are using for your tests, and when you created your cold and dark panel state, did you turn off the Cessna battery and avionics as well as the mixture and mags before loading the 737.
So if you could make a new flight and give me a step by step guide to how you set up the flight, including the airport and stand, I could try it on my system and see if I get the same or similar results, and we MAY be able to sort out what the problem is.
