PMDG 747 is probably the most sophisticated and best looking add on out there by far (except maybe the PMDG MD11)...it's an amazing aircraft. The only problem is it's a MAJOR FPS eater. Unless you have a mid to high-end system, you probably won't get much enjoyment out of it because your performance won't be all that great.

I had an Nvidia 8600GT, and I could pull 20FPS outside the airplane and in the 2D panel, which isn't bad. But I'm a VC flyer, and I can't pull more than 9FPS in the VC, even when I upgraded my video card. If your computer can handle the heavy load of the aircraft, then you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

I just read in the latest issue of PC Pilot that 'real world' 747 pilots use this one as a trainer! And also that the manual for it is pretty much just a copy of the one they use.

I'd say that's pretty complicated! :o

The PMDG 747 cockpit is only similar in the layout but every button, switch, window, armrest, knob, lever and anything else you can think of will move and do something to the aircraft, good or bad. ;D I can "fly" the 747 and the wilco 777 and the CS 757, but I am not too hot on spending 10 minutes of switch-flipping to turn the aircraft on.

Yes, do get the 8800GT and new PSU or even the GTX card. I am saving up for a mobo, case, and cpu upgrade around Christmas next year. You may want to do the same. Here is a little bit of advice for this system: follow ALL of Nick's tweaks and you will acheive good performance. Follow all of his tips, set autogen to none and max everything else out and achieve extreme performance. If you are a low and slow flyer you will probably want to keep autogen up but when you are flying an airliner it is best to keep it off to sustain maximum performance because this little AMD dual core doesn't like FSX that much.

You should try mastering the B737 and B747 default before moving on to anything more complicated. Then maybe move on to the freeware iFly 747 (more complicated) and maybe then try the PMDG series. Or even just skip the PMDG 747 and get the wilco 777. Equally nice plane with full working everything and much cheaper. :P ;) :D

nHancer is a must. But it won't do your current integrated graphics much good. If you do load it, take note that you will have to reconfigure it again when you get your new card. :) Glad to help. :D

I have the PMDG747-400 and on the right system it works great. With an i7 cpu @ 4Ghz and an Nvidia GTX 260 Core 216, I get between 35 and 60 fps @ 2560x1600 res, inside the cockpit. I'm flying from Honolulu Int'l with add-on scenery and detailed terrain mesh, and the experience is phenomenal.

My buddies fly 747s at work and use this program as a trainer before recurrent training sessions.

Just took it up for the first time this morning. It is not interfacing with my Go-Flight autopilot but other than that it was good. I got decent frame rates in the air but at CYVR it was a bit slow 10-15. once in the air it took to 25-30. I did find the VC taxing but I use a separate monitor for instrumentation so it is not a problem.

They ask a lot for it but I bought it and I don't regret. It's one of my all-time favorites. If you like 747-400, you can't find any better and any more relistic.
