MegaScenery X

Stumbled onto the website for this stuff. Looks fantastic-- photoreal and all... Anybody have any experience with it, good or bad? Thanks.

Mark, were you very drunk when you moved this topic? Too much Hungarian wine and beer perhaps on Easter?

Homebrewer, sorry can't answer your question. I'm sure someone will.

Crash ;)

I have PHX, So Cal, DFW and Hawaii.  It is great, but keep in mind that it is also flat, it is not 3D so all the buildings are 2D.  I live in DFW and I can fly over my work, home, etc.  All the streets are in the right place.  The one thing that I do not like about it is that smaller airports do not have many buildings.  They did a really poor job with NAS Ft. Worth (old Carswell AFB), they do not even have any of the Lockheed buildings where the F-16 is made.

Over all I would have to say it is worth the money.  Flying from Edwards AFB into and around LA and OC can't be beat.

I will say that if you do not have a pretty good setup then you may get a lot of blurries with the scenery if you try to fly to fast and since I fly F-16's and F/A-18's most of the time this can be annoying.

Thank you to all who relied. I will not buy the Mega stuff because even though it is very accurate, I want some height to my buildings. Of what value is flying over flat terrain? I want to see mountains and valleys and rivers and lakes and all the good stuff. I like to fool around fairly close to the ground. Looks like Mega ain't for me...

The mountains and valleys are NOT flat.  I didn't mean to say it's ALL flat.  Actually, if all your flying was over unpopulated areas you'd be very pleased at how good it looks.  It's when you get into cities, at low altitudes, that the flatness takes everything over.  But overall, Megascenery has more work to do to catch up to GEX/UTX (add to that 10m mesh like FSgenesis).  Here's the worst part:  Product support absolutely sucks.  They ignore questions posted in their forums, they promise patches/updates that are never delivered, and they blame all the problems with their scenery on Microsoft-and leave it at that.  With the GEX & stuff you get just about all the product support you need.  Never have to wait more than a day or so to get a question answered.  And they release patches when needed-quickly.

One thing I didn't mention before is where the Megascenery covers only a city or region at a time, GEX etc. covers entire continents.
What you might try is their MegasceneryX Hawaii.  It's a $15 download from their site and a good sampler (from what I've read).  You can see how your system handles the photoscenery.  Good Luck!

Even more reasons not to buy it. If it's one thing that really honks me off when I buy something it is a lack of support, be it software, hardware or onion bagels...
