Ultimate Traffic?

I have GEX, UTX, and FEX and that all works well.  I know the default AI traffic for FSX isn't very good.  Should I invest in the Ultimate Traffic from Flight1 or is there better software?

I can't help, but I am interested in the answer too.

So far there is no made for FSX AI add-on as far as I can see.  On the other hand there are made-over FS9 verseons.

Then there is World of AI - which I still can't see as FSX compatible, only 9 on the site, although many obviously use it- but which is hellishly complex to install.  Each airline seems to be compiled by different people and the installer is hard for us oldies.

Does anyone know if there is a made for FSX programme on the way.  I like a good representation of reality, but I care less whether every airline is represented and whether the timetables are absolutely up to date.  I just want to see representative aircraft of representative airlines in the sky and on the ground, without massive hits on performance.

I want a DVD that is self installing, and a simple GUI that allows me to select default and the techies to choose what they want.  Not much to ask, surely.

I might just pass this one on for right now.  It doesn't look this there's anything specifically for FSX.

Don't pass on it Raptorx, there are well informed members on this site who can help us on just about any topic.

I'd really like to learn what is available in relation to AI.

Says it's compatible with FSX now.

World-of-AI is actually very easy to install, and as far as I can see, it is compatible with FSX.

You just need to download the installer. Then unzip it to a folder where you can remember where it is.

Then download all the packages (one by one.. which I HATE doing because it is SO annoying), and store them all in the same folder. I recommend you make a folder for WOAI alone. Then one sub folder for the installer and another sub folder for the airline packs.

Start the installer, follow directions.. very simple. When it asks you which airline you want to install, browse to the airline sub folder you made (just make sure only the airline packs are there, nothing else!!) and select all (Ctrl A). Click open or OK and it'll start installing each one. Takes a while, just let it finish.

Any questions just PM me.

I use MyTraffic X 5.1a (5.1b) which is completely compatible with fsx.2 and I'm extremely satisfied with the support (simmarket download version) and product.  I also use some WOAI traffic  to supplement where necessary (fps hit is greater with WOAI models as compared to MTX so I use them sparingly).

If you decide to use WOAI traffic files I would suggest that you convert the bgls that are created using the WOAI installer into fsx format bgls and then move them to your addon scenery folder.  WOAI flight plans are fs8/fs9 and will cause fsx to use backward compatibility emulation mode, which will interfere with any fsx plane or boat traffic and cause them to disappear.

For example: Once you've created the bgls as explained nicely above, go to your scenery/world/scenery folder and move the newly created bgl flight plans (they're easy to spot as they all relate to WOAI) to a fsx conversion folder of your choice (you'll need to create another folder for this purpose to keep things organized).

To make the conversion I used two programs by the same developer, which I also located in the newly created conversion folder.  First program can be found at avsim and it's called FP_FS9_FSX and it's written by Peter van der Veen.  I believe that this first program checks to make sure that the fs8/fs9 flight plans and airports for each WOAI package is valid for fsx (i.e., some airports have closed or changed names).

The second program written the by same developer is called AIFPC and can be downloaded from:  http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2469&d=11845901 00

The second program will now decompile the corrected WOAI bgls (assuming they required correction) into fsx flight plans and then ask you to recompile into an fsx compatible bgl flight plan.  I believe that AIFPC will perform the task of both programs but since I wasn't sure I used the first program as well.

I then created a folder in the addon scenery folder called WOAI and then a scenery folder within this folder.  This folder sits one priority level beneath my fsx ai addon package called MyTrafficX, which resides above propeller objects and below addon scenery in the hierarchy.  I can confirm that WOAI is working with the fsx ai traffic, which was not the case prior to converting using AIFPC.

Good luck!

I also had a look at payware AI and I found that it was not really worth it, more people back then on here said WOAI is proberbly better.

I then downloaded WOAI, installed it. I then found that it disables my default AI, founding no AI in remote places.

I then downloaded the AIFPC program, I manually extracted the WOAI packages using the WOAI installer to a new folder on my desktop.

I then placed the aircraft files into my aircraft folders in FSX root folder.

I took the WOAI flight plans, txt files and not the bgl's and I ran them through the AIFPC. I then took the converted bgl's and pasted them into my add-on scenery.

Now I have full WOAI packages, even the very old ones and my default planes. I changed my paints on my default AI's too.

Im not good with computers in general, so if I can do it even a badger could if he tried.

Works great.

My 2 cents.

Sounds a bit complicated.  All that for traffic?  Why isn't it necessary to go thru all that with textures of mesh?

all you have to do is take all the flight plans WoAI installs to the Scenery\World\Scenery folder and move them to the add-on scenery folder and the default FSX traffic will work fine with it, OR, run the WoAI traffic files through a FS9-FSX converter and then they can live in the Scenery\World\Scenery folder with the default traffic file

However, the reason you would want to use replacement AI is because the default is a heavy hitter on performance because of the jetway animations (not the aircraft models or textures themselves) Older and 3rd party aircraft not designed for FSX do not have the gate info in their config files and because of that, they do not hit the system like aircraft properly made for FSX and gate calls.

The Scenery Complexity slider when set to DENSE or above enables the jetways and therefore the default AI will really hit a system hard if their sliders are pushed up because the sim starts calculating all the gates in a 50-120NM radius of your locations.. not just the airport you are at.

that is why the Scenery Complexity slider hits so hard. Its not so much the city and other buildings it puts in the sim but the animated airport jetways and other items that require CPU time.

When you replace the AI with WoAI or others you should rename the original default traffic FSX file in the Scenery\World\Scenery folder and not use it to get all the benefits of replacing the AI. At that point you can run higher Scenery Complexity and push the AL sliders into the 50-60% range without a hit.
