It seems like a waste.  All you do is 'deorbit' and land.  No launch, no orbital maneuvering....

And knowing captain sim its gotta be a computer killer :P

According to their forums, this version is really more of an experiment of sorts. They want to see if such an addon will be popular with the simming public. If the product proves successful enough, they may release an expansion with a more in-depth and "complete" shuttle experience (along with other space-related addons in the future).

Makes sense to me. It's best to gauge interest with a "small" version before you go pulling out all the stops and spending valuable time and man-power.

Hmmm... I was thinking they could exploit/tweek the new "tow plane" feature to make the shuttle attach to the ET with SRBs and that would pull it up into space. OR they could use the "drop tanks" feature (thats been there since 2002) and tie an animation to that in this case the ET separating.

As much as I love the idea of an ultra-detailed shuttle addon like this one, I'm inclined to agree with you about the price. In fact, it's why I don't buy payware at all, the prices are just too steep (for me). If I were the type with money to burn, I'd be all over it, but sadly that's not the case.

Going by what I read on their forums, it's entirely possible to recreate the launch/separation sequence in super-realistic glory, and it seems to be well within their abilities. Still, that takes time to set up, and they're waiting until the product takes off (no pun intended) before they go "the whole 9 yards".

I bought fsX for 93$ USD. YAY Australian prices! Anyway, I guess I'll be paying a 1/3rd as much as the real game, I think that's a pretty good deal for payware.

;) for those who can read, from CS tech support:

"Theoretically it is possible to model the complete Space Shuttle mission cycle in FSX, but we decided to start with last 5 phases. So the 'Space Shuttle' is a pilot project to determine interest of MS FS community in the Space and orbital aviation subject. If we receive enough positive feedback from the flightsim community, the 'Space Shuttle' will turn into a first product of a new 'SPACE' series of MS FSX add-ons.
If there are not enough enthusiasts in the MS FS community to support the 'space program' development, then the 'Space Shuttle' is going to be our first and probably the last 'space' project. "

Good there is hope for the launch system. If not JustFlight will model it into the boxed version and we'll all have to buy that.  :P Either way I will only ever buy it if its boxed from JustFlight Captainsim. Which is why you won't see my money buying your 757 or Space Shuttle til they make their way to JustFlight. *hint-hint* Please let Justflight publish it Captainsim! I'm dieing for your Space Shuttle here!
