Just got megaScenery

Postby Stormtropper » Tue Jun 21, 2005 9:06 pm

Ok...went to best buy to pick up Battlefield 2, only to learn that it isn't in stores yet...but instead picked up MegaScenery USA2004 (San Fran, Sacramento, and Surrounding Areas), and MegaCity Denver 2005....

(I know, I know, I'm an impulse buyer... :P)

...but my question is, whats the difference between MegaScenery San Fran, and MegaCity san Fran?

Thanks..!

Hi Jeff...

MegaCity uses an even higher resolution for the photographic textures - i.e Megacity uses 1 foot per pixel; Megascenery uses 3 metres per pixel (or something like that) and thus Megacity has a much crisper and delicate appearance: check out these screenshots of m'City SanFran here: http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1111651314 and here: http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1110690958.

Amazing detail I think you'll agree!  8)

Yeah, Megascenery and MegaCity are like comparing super Nintendo with Playstation.  It's amazing.  Keep in mind that a major advantage of having the higher resolution is that you can see the detail at lower altitudes.  Megascenery requires you to be at very high altitudes to be able to make out any detail while MegaCity allows you to make out rooftops and individual city streets while at much lower altitudes.  Also, megaCity is much more colorful and the superb detail gives a greater 3D appearance allowing you to need much less autogen buildings to get the 3D effect.

I have flown over the SF bay many times in real life and in the sim.  megaCity really is the closest thing to real life I have ever seen in flight sim.  All the cool planes you can get are great...but I strive for a very realistic environment and megaCity goes unmatched in offering that realism.

Compare this shot of Megascenery with my shots of megaCity provided in the links above...this is about as good as megascenery gets and I had to be at a high altitude and zoomed out quite a bit to capture it.
