quick steam/fsx airplane question

Postby lancer24 » Sat Dec 03, 2016 4:17 pm

Hi, just a quick question about airplane purchases from Steam. I personally do not have the Steam version of FSX, but I was wondering do I actually need the FSX-Steam Ed to buy an airplane that is for the Steam Ed to use in FSX? I have been waiting a looong time and looking high and low for a really good FSX native E-2C and then one day, Virtavia comes out with one....But it is for the Steam version of FSX. Would I need to buy the steam version of FSX just so that I can purchase an airplane that I have sought after for years???

Presume you are talking about this
http://store.steampowered.com/app/45708 ... views_hash

It says on the page that it requires Steam version ...... however the manual talks about using it in FSX

http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam ... 1474461011

There you also can see an email for the tech support -- tech.support@virtavia.com -- I suggest you drop them the question and let us know

From what i can remember when I was beta testing the steam version of FSX addons created fro the STEAM version could work in the BOXED version of FSX but might not look as good and could have some minor problems. But that was some time ago and steam has made several updates since than so your best bet is to take Pete's advice and contact them but please let us all know what you find oy so we can share the information

Unfortunately, most (if not all) models released for FSX Steam have some kind of DRM that makes them unusable in FSX (model won't load).
We had the case recently with some models from Aeroplane Heaven, if I'm not mistaken. The plane was release only on FSX Steam, and regular FSX users couldn't use it.
The default FSX Steam planes can be transfered to FSX/P3D without problems. But the payways planes will most likely not work.
It works the other way around though: FSX Steam will accept freeware and most payware planes from FSX.

Ah, OK...I guess I will just have to do with the Abacus version until, hopefully, Virtavia will make an FSX version someday. Thanks for the info.
