PALM Springs KPSP Released soon

Postby Jetranger » Fri Oct 31, 2014 6:48 am

Several months ago I posted a question on a Flight Sim Scenery design site, about why no one wanted to do a good scenery of one of my favorite places to visit in real life , that being Palm Springs California.

Beautiful place, lots of golfing, Sun Shine & warm dry weather most of the time.

Been there in real life several times, including a trip up to Bob Hopes house back in the 1980's.

In June of this year I was contacted by a scenery developer who also apparently became interested in rendering the Airport and the city of Palm Springs.

Wanted to know if I lived there ?

I informed him no, I did not, but visited the place a lot when I was younger, and I couldn't help him to provide photos for accuracy or details.

He thanked me anyway, and then today he sends me this EMail of what he has done so far !! :D

I'm providing a link so everybody can see the photo's of what he has managed make of Beautiful Palm Springs, California.

Check it out !!

I wanna go for a ride on the Tram again to the top of tho Mountains thru the Valley, it was awsum when I did it back in the 1980's think 1988

I even applied for a Job at the City of Palm Springs city hall when Sonny Bono was mayor

Position : City Street Sweeper , running their FMC Street Sweeper 3 wheeled jobber up / down city streets , anything to get out of the cold climate I was in in the Midwest.

needless to say I didn't get the job,,,, what all those California babes missed out on !!!! ME !!!

Ohhh well, I wanna go fer another tram ride again,,,,

Fascinated as I am, with all things interesting, and observing the Tramway shown in the screen shot, I fired up my Google Satellite Street Map, typed "Palm Springs Aerial Tramway" in the search box, and, lo and behold, there it is!
Zoom down in Street Map view, and have a walk around!
Follow the track up the Canyon!

I'm going to fly my little Cessna 150 up there later on, from Palm Springs Airfield!

Certainly worth looking out for, from ORBX...(Payware)...>>>>

Although, looking at the very beautiful, highly complex scenery, over a wide area, I'm wondering if it will require a Cray Supercomputer to run it without suffering a serious Frame Rate drop!.... :o ...!

Dunno' most of my ORBX/FTX scenery is fairly frame rate friendly, actually more so than a lotta freeware scenery I have. Those scenery designers who do work for ORBX are aware of that too. That's why you don't see a lotta Big Mega Airport coming out of ORBX , but mainly smaller medium sized airports.

I just find a lotta those big mega airports boring with all the dull boring grey textures, not all that appealing really. So I stick with the smaller general use to medium sized airports with better details and thought put into them.

I Quit the photo real scenery way back, nothing more depressing than landing and finding everything FLATTENED out as a panacake, hangers, buildings, etc.

yip its real as long as your 5,000ft or higher and that's all ya wanna do fly around at high elevations I suppose.

Don't forget fozzer to swing by the pools and buy the girls drinks too :D
