FS Dreamscapes UTAH Photoscenery

Postby raptorx » Fri Dec 19, 2008 8:32 pm

I purchased Utah photoscenery from FS Dreamscapes.  Dean is currently finishing up the state so it's not complete and there will be some polishing later on too.  So far I have around 51Gb with more to come.  I just want to say a few things about this:

1) For $34 (I got it for $26) this is absolutely the best photoscenery out there, period!
2) The detail and resolution is every bit as good as megascenery and perhaps even better.
3) There is almost NO penalty in loading times commonly experienced with megascenery.  This is because Dean has figured out how to make much bigger .bgl files.  Where megascenery SoCal is around 15Gb, they use over 3000 .bgl files to render that.  This Utah scenery is (so far) already over 50Gb on my drive and there's only 350 or so .bgl files!  1/10th the amount megascenery has.
4) As a consequence of far more efficient use of .bgl files, this scenery runs clear and fast.  Much better than megascenery.

And Utah is a beautiful state to render for FSX.  There is also included FREE 5m mesh too (I don't know how much of that is finished).

If anyone is looking for good photoscenery then give Utah a try.  It's a lot of data for HDDs but the result is simply stunning scenery.

Any autogen in that or is it the typically "flat" photoscenery?

Also is there an fs2004 version?

best,

No 2004, just FSX.  And that might even be SP2 FSX only.  The scenery is being released on a county-by-county basis and there are refinements to come, like autogen and water data.

It does come with 5m mesh and that really does a lot to get rid of the flatness.  The cities/towns are a bit flat but IMO not as bad as megascenery.  But this stuff is so good even in the early condition it's being released now that you won't care what's missing.  They've done everything right as far as making photoscenery work with FSX.

If there's a Holiday sale jump on this, if not try to get it anyway.  I like supporting developers who really seem to care about putting out good products for FSX (Like Nick and Anthony from Flight1 with GEXn).  And the customer support seems really good so far.  Dean's responded quickly to my emails.

I'm so convinced that this stuff is hot that if you buy it and you don't like it...I'LL give you half your money back!  That's $17 based on full price. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  That's provided you've got a system to run it on though.  But just one person, I'm not a bank! :D

Jim,

Thanks for the fast reply and info.

By "flat" I meant lack of 3-D trees, buildings, etc..... not low rez mesh.  I HATE photoscenery that is simply a photograph set on the mesh.,.... no matter how good the mesh is.

And too bad on the lack of a fs2004 version .... I'm staying there for the foreseeable future.

Utah is one of my favorite places.

best,

I agree, the flatness ruins photoscenery.  But part of that is most photoscenery is laid on 10m mesh and that just enhances the flatness of the buildsings, houses, etc.  I use 5m California mesh with megascenery Socal and it really helps.  If you go to the FS Dreamscapes website there are screenies but they don't even do it justice.

Happy Holidays John!  :)
