New Payware Product

Postby Rich H » Wed Jul 30, 2008 12:05 pm

Well, I want a new payware plane, but i'm struggling to get to a descision. I've narrowed it down to planes : CLS 747-200/300, CLS DC-10 and the Wings of Power Boeing B-17. This for FSX. I've included a poll, please vote your favourite ( and give a reason ) out of these 3.

Voted for the CLS 747....

The B-17 is a fine plane, but you really can't do much with it but fly small flights really. You can't go very far (becuase it's so slow)...I would become bored with it real quick if I bought it.

DC-10 and 747 are nice planes, and they are both long range and can do about the same thing. I just like the 747 better, and the -200/-300 747 are old school airplanes, no FMC. So it makes it a lot better to fly, you actually have to do something  ;D.

Wings Of Power B-17 Flying Fortress....!

Correction, it's an awsome aircraft. And what makes you think it can only do short flights? I just finished a 15.3 hour flight acrossed the Atlantic ocean with it yesterday.

I flew one from San Francisco to Honolulu once back in FS2002

If you navigate realistically, it's a rewarding challenge...

But in the end, it's your preference, and I respect that, just like I think flying a big jet on GPS Autopilot for hours on end at 30,000+ feet would be boring ;D

True, it's a matter of opinion I suppose.

Wings of Silver Boeing 377 with Accu-sim  8-)

You ain't flown nothing like it and that's a promise.

Customer quotes
"Ok, I got her now and wow. A HUGE (and I mean state of Texas size of huge) thank you towards A2A. This has to be the most immersive addon I ever had the pleasure to sit in. Simmarket has the discount now so I bought it there. And I was surprised that I did not get a serial at all - the installer is plain and simple (big thank you for that too) like Carenado's. First contact with the 377 was

My first flight ended in disaster though. I have not printed the manual yet (don't know how I can print the letter size properly to A4/5) and it clearly was not a good idea. I forgot to open the cowl flaps so temps shot through the roof. The FO constantly allerted me (great feature and very well done!!!) about the temp so I (not thinking) opened the cowl flaps. Naturally they got stuck and could not be closed. The temps came down but there was a huge amount of drag and vibration (nice rattleing in the VC and creaking sounds of the hull etc) so I returned to base - crash landing because I stalled.

Honestly, THIS is how an FSX addon has to be. FPS friendly (better than Level-D and close to FSX default planes), good looking and sounding and very complex. Nice work!!! And for such a prize its basically a steal isn't it."

"This is just stunning!! Congrats to everyone involved.

All the great attention to detail really shows as do the thousands of hours of testing you must have done.

So much cool stuff here. Just done one short flight from Dillingham to Honolulu, pretty busy but not too much too keep up with. Flying along and the visibility goes down, thinking it's just the sun coming up, and it gets worse and then I remember reading about the windshield defrost!!! Nice interaction from the copilot callouts and applause after my first landing.

The bar has been raised here, a lot. I realize not everyone wants the super realism that I do, but this old 10,000 hour real world pilot now has something that is really going to keep his interest. Thanks so much A2A."

"Many thanks A2A, that's what i had dreamed of, but i would have never expected to get it.. especially for that price.
That's really a new standard and simply perfect."

I think it's between the CLS 747-200/300 and the A2A Wings of Power B-17. It's a tough decision. I'm quite happy with the FSX SGA DC-10, which has a good model and flight dynamics; even tohugh it doesn't have a panel or VC.

If you want graphics for a 747, get CLS, if you want realism (like me) get RFP (it's free). This makes my personal decision for me at this point about the 747, why pay for one when there's already another one out there for free, and operates more realistically? (IMHO)

The DC-10 would probably be better in that regard for me, just make sure you download the CIVA INS from Simufly first (any classic plane is worthless without it.)

I cannot comment on the WoP B-17, as I am not into military aircraft... yet. :D

I've sort of come to a decision, it's either the CLS 747, or the Just flight Avro Vulcan.

If you like to fly go with the WOP B-17 it's great I love and fly it a lot ;D
This is the sim world who cares if you fly for two hours and only go 400 miles with the B-17 or 1000 miles in a 747 or DC10 ::) in the end you spend the same two hours and your still in the same spot you started ;)
Everyone wants to get some place fast even in the sim world :'(

Uh, lets see. A famous WWII or some boring commercial jet(btw I like commercial jets but when compared to the legendary B-17 I'd go for the B-17 by far) ;)

Id go for the CLS 747....i hear theres loads of great repaints for it :D

Seriously though, i dont know how you can compare to the RFP 747, great it maybe was in its day but it didnt stay on my hard drive that long. Just didnt look right and was fiddly to fly. If i want a fiddly to fly 747 i go PMDG and do it properly with somthing that looks real .If i want an easy flight i go CLS, and still get somthing that actualy resembles a 747.

Thats only my view BTW :D

The CLS DC-10 is ok but it lacks a little 'extra' but its as good a representation of the DC-10 model wise i think your going to get at the moment. Oh and i hear theres some nice really well done repaints for that as well :D

Just wish either company would do somthing with the TriStar, i think it would be a big hit! CLS lock threads about it now sadly :-/
