USA Extreme Landscapes by Abacus

Postby Chris_F » Tue Sep 28, 2004 2:44 pm

Bought USA Extreme Landscapes by Abacus at Comp USA for $20 this weekend and it is awsome!  For those unfamiliar this is a three CD set of terrain maps for the entire US, parts of Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii.  The game is really transformed.  I've downloaded the free terrain maps from this web site and they're NOTHING compared to the terrain maps in this package.  Well worth the $20.  The Grand Canyon always used to look a little cool, now it is breathtaking.  The Rockies have always been nice, but now they're stunning.  Crater lake is amazing, the California coast is beautiful, the Apalacians are wonderful, Denali National Park is spectacular.  Yosemite National Park is awe inspiring.

The whole USA is transformed.  Heck, even the "flat" areas are more beautiful.  Instead of billiard table flat they're covered with gently rolling elevation changes.  I don't even want to fly outside the US anymore.  I think I'm going to have to find the Europe addon pack now.

If you want to spend $20 on an addon don't bother with a new plane.  Get the terrain map.  It'll change the whole game for you (at least inside the US).

It is awesome! And doesn't effect frame rates!
I was pleasently surprised when the Hawaii and Alaska portions came out, I bought it before then and one day in the mailbox there they were free of course. Abacus gained some respect from me after that!

I can vouch that installation goes without a snag... and I like the scenery as well :)  It comes with the Carenado Piper Dakota.

I bought the same scenery package about a month ago, and I'll have to agree that it is a great program.  I live in west Georgia, and the default scenery is pretty flat.  I now have hills and some noticeable topography around my home airport (KCTJ).  I didn't get the coupon for the free Hawaii/Alaska scenery though, so I wrote to Abacus on Sunday asking what I could do.  Tuesday night I get a e-mail telling me it's being shipped out.  I definently recommend them.

I'll get around to it eventually.  I post from work so I don't have access right now.  Maybe this weekend I'll have time to post something up.

i bought extreme landscapes and i'm very impressed!  this thing is worth getting!  i flew out of jackson hole and the grand tetons *finally* looked like the grand tetons!  i flew over downtown denver heading toward "buffalo bill" and it looks just like i remember driving that way.  the buttes just north/east of golden colorado looked like they're supposed to as well.

i also flew over los angeles.  it was breathtaking!  the cliffs just north of lax just prior to marina del ray looked like they're supposed to.  i flew around palos verdes penesula and i was able to accurately identify portugese bend!

and oh yea, installation was a breeze.  my only beef was , even though it gets the hollywood hills right, the hollywood sign was really messed up.  and i took a look at the free download fix, and that doesn't look right either.
