Flying around Vancouver with PrecipitFX

If you've been following this story you might ask - "Does anyone else have this and is it any good?"

As far as I'm concerned it's ok for Prepared, but only if you use HDR Lighting.

On the other hand if you fly FSX and have Image it's a pretty good deal.

Here are a few shots in and around Vancouver to give you a little idea of what it looks like. Remember this is Prepar3d with HDR Lighting turned on. FSX will be better.

PS - Sometimes the snowflakes actually stick to the windshield! :lol:

Of course that's only when you're going slow, and they don't last that long. Kinda like when you have snow blowing against the auto's windshield.

Thanks OldAirmail.
I am sold. Might have to wait for pension day this Thursday.

If you say it is better in FSX,I will be happy.

The snow in DX10 is a little better than default but
I don't think it looks very real.

Fozzer will killus talking on this subject. :lol: :lol:

One last note

It looks like the program actually adds certain effects to some aircraft, which makes sense. After all a small Piper Cub isn't going to need the same landing/break effect as 787 Dreamliner, and it isn't going to need contrails at all.

So you should run the install after you add aircraft. Maybe not every time, but as often as you feel the need to.

The first time, and on subsequent updates, you'll see this;
Image

When you click on the install button after that it'll do a search & modify to add any needed effects. You'll see this;

Thank You OAM. I bit the bullet and bought it. Had a hell of a time trying to download it,
but finally did it. So far snow effects not as heavy as your pics. Have precip/snow on high
and special effects on max.

At some angles you cannot see the snow at all. Above a certain angle the snow looks black.

Any ideas would are welcome. Btw I fly in DX10,with Steves Fixer.

With Thanks.

I'm sure that you've already read this in the manual, but -
"DirectX10 is fully compatible when used with the SteveFX Scenery Fixer. DX10 enhances the look of many effects and gives a softer look to volumetric lighting. We highly suggest it!"

Are you running something like REX, or other weather programs, that replace the weather textures (rain, snow, etc)?

If so, run PrecipitFX AFTER you've started FSX.

These are my FSX settings:

And the result:

This is FSX with PrecipitFX "uninstalled" using PrecipitFX (always use the program to uninstall/install not the windows uninstaller).

You finally sold me. I bought a few models with skis during all the Yule time madness. Might as well have some snow to fly em in.

Just a note on PrecipitFX. It looks like they've worked on it a bit.

If you haven't updated it, and had it rescan your aircraft, in a while I'd say that you should.
