Got the same e-mail...(as I already have REX).

What's the difference between that, and ORBX "FTX Global" which I already have?...(together with Ultimate Terrain USA, Canada, and Europe).

Paul... :D ...!

As i see it, they've combined cores with prepar3!
(I dont have full REX, yet, only all their freewares).
In this link you can see what the improments are, and again, as i see it, if you got full REX, the cost is very low, >$5

Paul, Orbx Global is basically land textures only while REX has water, sky, weather, lights, clouds, airport textures and such.

I was looking for the best sky "eye candy" there was, so I bought REX Essential PLUS OverDrive.

Well, it does do EVERYTHING. Unfortunately, it takes forever to do it. As in "have you had lunch yet?" I think that's why they now emphasize "•Lightning fast texture installation".

You can read about my experiences with REX starting here.

But what it boils down to is this, although REX may have the best cloud textures around, I found OpusFSX Live Weather to be FAR better to use. AND it can use the Rex textures too.

I REALLY wish you were right. :(

Considering that I bought the FULL version only a few months ago, $5 off a $35 purchase isn't going to entice me into buying what amounts to an update

Having said that, if I didn't already have REX Essential PLUS OverDrive I'd buy this new version without hesitation.

This is the kind of stuff I can get with the "old" software;

(Actually, I've fined tuned the REX clouds that I use with Opus. My skies look even better now.) :D

There's a VERY long list under "REX4 TEXTURE DIRECT FEATURES:", but if you read it carefully, and I did, you'll find a lot of fluff as in: "•Large, easy to read user-interface"

I'm sorry??? "•Large, easy to read user-interface" ??? . . That's a "feature???

Interestingly, a very large part of those "FEATURES" listed are devoted to the airport surface, one way or another.

But I'm just nitpicking. This sounds like a better deal than buying REX Essential PLUS OverDrive.

In so far as the price goes, this version - Real Environment Extreme - REX4 Texture Direct, is $35.

Real Environment Xtreme (REX) Essential Plus w/ OverDrive is only $10 more.

From my personal experience with REX Essential PLUS, I'd recommend Real Environment Extreme - REX4 Texture Direct for $35.

I don't know if it's as good as Opus, but Opus uses whatever clouds you have in FSX. It uses, but does not make the clouds. But what it does do, it does extremely well.

I've already got REX and REX Weather engine, together with ORBX FTX Global, FS Global SE, VOZ 1.8,etc...and the wonderful Ultimate Terrain for USA and Europe, and a few other various free-ware bits and bobs for FS 2004 and FSX....
....so until the scenery is actually "Google Earth" below me... ...., I don't fink I need any more scenery add-ons!.... :D ...!

Paul...and I still avoid "Clouds"...and "Water"...both very dangerous!... ...!
