Setting controls on steering device

Released in 1997, FS98 was heralded at the time as a great new Flight Simulator.

Setting controls on steering device

Postby Texhotair » Sun Jan 22, 2006 6:41 pm

Hello, new to this board and read through the acrchives first.
My problem is, I am running Flight Simulator 98 on a new load on a new Dell computer with the XP professional.

I got a USB device to use, it is a Digital R steering wheel with pedals. The device shows up and works in other games, like my driving game.

Now, what I can not get to happen is setting the various controls for Flight Simulator.

I would like to set forexample one button for gear up or down and to work flaps etc, etc.  I can test the gaming device in control panel and it works. But in Flight Sim, nope, will not work.

Does anyone have any ideas for setting up this device for flight sim? I have to admit I have not flown with this program in a couple of years, but it loads fine and will run with keyboard controls.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I may be a little short on helping here; my gaming computer is still 98SE and I had CFS (which I'm much more familiar with) in operation first so my control unit was already recognized. In the past, however, I've had the occasion to enter Settings and type in my 'Add-on' information and 'Calibrate'. I also had to go back to Settings to check what key was defaulted to Joystick on/off because, when I went back into gameplay, I only had the keyboard engaged.
Since I won't have FS98 available to me for another few hours, and another 20 or so hours before I could again respond, that's the best i can do for now. Hope it helps some.
