OK, here's my take on this, having had both in the past:

The Pro edition has a few extra aircraft, and also contains Image Tool and maybe some other program, Image Tool enables viewing of texture files in formats that some photo editors and viewers cannot.

Good advice from Apex... ;)...!

I have progressed from FS '98 to FS 2000, to FS 2002, to FS 2004, and FSX...!

FS 2002 (and Pro) is an excellent Flight Sim, and will suit most "low end" hardware...with lots of Freeware scenery, objects, etc :)...!
The step up to FS 2004 brings much better default scenery, again with lots of add-on, freeware scenery, objects, etc, and is very slightly more demanding on computer hardware than FS 2002, but is well worth obtaining, and will give hours of pleasure, generally with no problems!

FS 2004 is still available in certain stores (do a search) and well worth snapping up!

...I thoroughly enjoy mine!.. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]..!

Paul... 8-)...!

Thanks for everything.  I'm thinking one day I may just buy a cheap used version and just use it to grab the aircraft off of.

Thanks,

Mike
