Flight Simulator 2002 and Vista

Postby Gringo6 » Sat Aug 04, 2007 1:19 pm

I bought a new computer and it runs the Vista Operting System. It seems Vista is the only game in town these days so I really had no choice.

I installed flight simulator 2002 and flight simulator 2004 both. I have successfully used them together on my old computer which had the Windows ME operating system, and had no problem.

Flight Simulator 2004 operates normally with Vista. I can hold a frame rate of 35 with everything maxed out. This really nice for a change.

But Flight Simulator 2002 does not. With FS 2k2 I can select any airpane I want and everything works ok until I press the "fly now" button. Now, no matter which aircraft I have selected it opens with the Boeing 737-400. I can press ALT and then AIRCRAFT and then select aircraft and it will load and fly any aircraft I want.

I have removed and re-installed FS 2k2 several times in an effort to correct  this problem without any luck.

Is anybody else running FS 2k2 with Vista ?

Do you have this or any other problem ?

Does anybody have an answer to this problem ?

Thanks,

No answer, but I can say I'm not exactly surprised something like this can happen.
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE 3.6ghz, 4gb RAM, Palit GTX 460 1 gb, OCZ 750W, Windows 7 64bit

I have this problem too, but it always gives me the Corsair, in the middle of some desert.

Odd, I've got FSX, FS02, FS04 all installed at the same time with Vista. Never Had a problem running any of them. Each sim is installed on it's own drive and I installed them in order from newest to oldest as I got curious about performance differences one rainy night, and each one has worked fine on the first install.  Srry, don't know why fs02 wouldn't work on your comp, but it is possible to run them on vista.  I hope someone else has an idea what's goin on with your install and can help you.

I am running both FS2002 and FS2004 on Windows XP.  The reason I still have FS2002 is the usual frame rate issue, I get great frames with FS02, but not with FS04.  I haven't had time to upgrade.

I have had a lot of experience with both, especially FS02.  I'm wondering why you want to run FS02 if your FS04 is running OK.  Just curious.  I have found FS04 to be superior to FS02 in several areas, it looks better, weather is better, and with the Microsoft upgrade they finally got the bridges right.

Like I said, I'm just wondering, that's all.  I do not have an answer to your question, sorry.

Dear Apex:   I just like the GPS better in 2k2. That's the main reason. I use Talil's map for gps on 2k4 and it approximates 2k2 enough to make it a useful addition. I find the Garmin GPS very inefficient in screen space.

Thanks dad39.  I had done that earlier - when I found out how - and the FS2002 started working correctly - but I did not connect the two.
