Sound Problems

Don't know if anyone can help me. The sound on my ATR voices are warbled & when I extend or retract the flaps, the sound is delayed & bitty. I uninstalled fs & re-installed it, but it's still happening. The sounds OK on any other game & also for music. Very strange.

Heya again Chris, you mind telling us which ATR your using? I'm not entirely sure what could be causing this, if it is the Flight1 ATR, they should be able to help you over on their forums. If not, then trying another sound package will hopefully solve the problem!

Just realised, I put ATR instead of ATC. It's the air traffic control voices that are warbled, along with the flaps noise. Engine noise etc are all OK.

Hmmm, sounds like it may be a problem with the load on your system, as obviously, this will only happen around airports, what AI are you using? Try turning the sliders down if you are using something like UT or MyTraffic, see if this eases they load on your system. BTW, is this an immediate thing, as in, as soon as the flaps are lowered the problem starts? Or just roughly around that time? Does this happen at all airports? Could you post your system specs?

Sorry for all the questions, but there are quiet a few factors that could be causing this, and so I need to know all of the possibilities!

Sorry to sound dumb, but I don't know what A1 actually is. I've seen it mentioned on here loads of times, but never understood it

The problem with the ATC voice is immediate & the delayed flaps noise is whenever I extend or retract them. This could be on the ground, or in the air. By the way, thanks for the help alex.

Not a problem Chris, AI is 'Artificial Intelligence' or most of the time in FS, lack of it! AI aircraft are those that you see in your sim, flying around your virtual world, they are from airlines such as Soar, World Travel etc. What you can do in FS, is add more aircraft, more models (such as Airbus', Fokkers, and practically every aircraft you can think of), from every airline you could think of. The biggest freeware provider of this is ProjectAI, but there are payware programmes such as Ultimate traffic, and MyTraffic, which do this for you in one installation, rather than one for each airline.

Your sound problem though, sounds like something within FS, when the sounds slow down, do the other sounds in the sim do the same (infact, is the rest of your sim affected? Things like smoothness of picture?) I can't seem to see what could be causing this, have you tried updating your sound drivers, just incase. Did this problem start happening after you installed/uninstalled a certain addon? Made any changes to your FS .cfg?

I must admit, the screen goes a bit jittery sometimes & on occassion, the flights & handling of the aircraft isn't as smooth as it could be. In fact, at the moment, after re-installing fs2002, I can't seem to get the plane off the ground, it doesn't want to climb & keeps stalling & crashing, but I'm trying to rectify this, by altering some settings, so will see what happens. I've uninstalled & then re-installed fs2002, so there aren't any add-ons on there. It's just the basic programme & it's still happening. Not sure what my sound card is.

Ok well it sounds like it might be the load onj the system thats causing this. Do you shut down the programmes running in the background when you start FS? Try running FSAutostart which is found all over the web. Hopefully that will free up more resources for you. Give us a shout and tell us how it goes!

I d/loaded FSAutostart & followed, as best I could, the instructions. Wasn't sure which programmes to restart & what not to, but gave it a bash. Then I put in FS2002 as the application I wanted to use. When I started up FSAutostart, it showed a couple of errors ( writing in red), opened up FS2002 breifly, then everything including my desktop icons, FSAutostart & FS2002 dissapeared off the screen & I couldn't access the computer with the mouse or keyboard. All I could do, was shut it down from the computer button itself. So I've scrapped that idea. Then, I manually closed the programmes running that were in the right hand bottom tray, then re-opened FS2002, but the handling problems & sound issues were still there.
Oh, by the way, I also searched in the sound folder of the FS2002 for the flaps wave & played it & it was fine, which is strange.

Yeah, FSAutostart can be a bit tricky to start out, but it gets better! The fact that you say you can play flap sounds normally, really suggests that it is a system load problem, and/or sound card. Unfortuantly, I really cant help you other than that. Go and leave a post down in the hardware forum, and they guys there will help you out! All the best,

Good news. After a lot of fiddling about, I discovered the problem was with my C-Media 3D sound card thingy. Made a few adjustments & "viola", alls well again. One happy boy
