Using FS9 Flights for Fs2002 & Visa-Versa

Postby NicksFXHouse » Thu Jul 06, 2006 8:43 pm

I am posting this in 2 areas of the forum because it is relevant to both FS2004 and FS2002 and someone in either forum may be able to supply input...

Someone is attempting to install my Space Shuttle Landing Challenge into FS2002. I do not know if the challenge flights will work in FS2002 because they were designed in FS9. I do not use FS2002 so I am blind to assist this person. I have 4 questions...

1.
Can a FS9 fight, normally saved in:

My Documents\Flight Simulator Files

-or-

Flight Simulator 9\Flights\FLIGHT NAME FOLDER

....be used for FS2002?

2.
Are there any changes that must be made to the FS9 .flt file for it to work in FS2002 without issues?

3.
Where would it go in FS2002?.. exact path.

4.
In FS2002 is there a "Flight Simulator Files" folder located inside of "My Documents" or is that only for FS9?

I tried this once a long time ago and gave up on it.

The problem (as I recall) was that the coordinates are so precise that the minor differences between FS02 and FS9 put my aircraft, tower, waypoints, etc. off by just enough to screw up everything.  I'd be near the runway but I might be 50 yards away and 5 feet above the surface.

As to where you would put them, they go in FS2002/Flights/myflts.  Or you could create another folder instead of myflts and they will just show up differently in the menu.  I have non-MS flights in Flights/myflts, Flights/Carriers, Flights/BOTA, etc.

A FS02 flight needs at least a .flt file and a.wx file.  .pln and .brf files seem to be optional.

If you would like to analyze them I'll email you some for comparison.  I could zip every flight I have into about 2Mb.  These look like MS flights -

Aerial Chauffeur
Alaskan Floatplane Pilot
Chopper Pilot
Desert Adventure
European Airline Pilot
Hawaiian Vacation
Scenic Wonders

Thanks..

Unless someone is using my Space Shuttle and the flights in FS2002 and can tell me if they work it is not worth ripping flights apart to try and reverse engineer them. I simply do not have the time for that much R&D and I do not have FS2002 to test with.
