poor framerates on FS2002 even with new computer!

hi all

I've been enjoying FS2002 for a few years now on my P4 2.8 system with a Ti4200 AGP 8x video card.

however I always noticed poor framerates when lots of ground scenery/clouds were around...  a classic example is the London - Paris flight in the European Airline Pilot scenario.

At times, esp during the descent to Paris, the framerate drops quite a lot.  In fact, if I switch to 2x or 4x time acceleration, the framerate drops to single digits (almost to 0!).  Guess the machine just cannot draw everything fast enough....

Anyway...I've now overclocked my CPU to 3.1 gHz, changed the Video card to a 6600GT AGP, but the framerate hasn't improved in this particular scenario...

Is that a bug in the program itself?  Because surely my system's spec should be miles ahead of requirements in 2002!!!

please advise, as it's driving me mad.

I have no idea ;D  I just know that the computer can play FS2002 ;D

BTW I got that 1.0 FPS in the grand canyon.

Earlier in the week i was trying to stress my computer so much to see how low i oculd get it....in seattle, with default scenery mind you, in a f-86....i got 2.8 FPS ;D

Then yesterday i was tlking to someone who had gotten down to 0.5 FPS...or 1 frame every 2 seconds ;D

The Paris problem is a known bug in the program.  The last I heard there is nothing you can do about it.

Clouds are another framerate killer.  Try setting a lower density and/or downloading a friendlier (smaller) textures package.
