Hi Guys and Ladies, and my biggest helper - - - Mr Webb. I wish to express my thanks and appreciation to you all for taking your time in helping me. Perhaps OTHERS are having some of the same difficulties as I am in installing this program . I'm still knocking the corners off this new fangled wheel oops - - - - I mean computer. :) Is there an easy way this old caveman can download and install the "FS Autostart" program ? It's way over my head as to how to do it "THEIR" way. You know - - - sorta the same way as downloading and installing an airplane ! ! ! ??? Thanks again, caveman

Did you try the manual/non .msi/.zip install - it's really much easier in case something is wrong with the installer.
The only thing I can think of that could go wrong is the profile is going into the wrong place. It must be in c:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\FSAutoStart
If you install it as User ABC you have to put it in User ABC's profile.

Thanks for your help. I'm working on it. The PC baffles me a lot due to the lack of brain power. I'm still chipping the corners off that round thing :). caveman

Hey Guys and Ladies, Sorry I'm such a drag - - - I've tried for many , many hours to get that Autostart program installed. No such thing . It's times like this when I have concerned people helping me that I truly live up to my name [caveman].

Just dense I guess :) . I sure wish someone would "WRITE " a program similar as such a program for us Sims would be a great benefit- - - - especially for those of us with "low powered PC's". I'm not one to give up but I must put this on the back burner for the time. Mayby someone will give it a try and Write one we all can use. Thanks again. caveman

I still think you should go with the manual install.
All you need to know is how to use Windows Explorer and and a couple of cut & pastes.

My Friend - - - Mr Webb, sorry I'm taking up so much of your time. I'm truly not too much PC savvy, I'll need to wait until my neighbor has the time to show me how to do that "install" you speak of. I have books but it seems they go on the premise of " basics already understood " . It' the little things that's throwing me ! :) Right now I'm "running" 41 processes or I guess it"s programs. That is way too many and when I went into my "Enditall" I didn"t do much better / 30 processes . I did get the 2nd profile done just for "gaming" on my " J " partition where I keep and RUN my FS2k2. However - - - I can't "GET IT " as to how to get the programs shown and wouldn't know which to shut-down. I do get about 500mb of available RAM. It's still not enough as I still only get about 7-10 fps and my lil' B47 copter blinks out! I "FLY" VFR in SE Alaska. [love the scenery]. I guess I do better chasing a " T-REX " . I sure do thank you for your help. I live in the middle of nowhere [ Western NC Nathahala National Forest ] . caveman

Hey Guys and Ladies, This time I 've got it [the FS Autostart]. I've got to figure out the settings yet but we at last got it installed. I'm always looking for help in getting these things correct. What settings do I start with ? I've toyed around some but it don't seem to make much if any difference in the FS2k2 . I also have installed the "system booster XP " and the "Optimize memory " programs. I'm getting 508 plus Mb of RAM . I know this is a lot of rambling - - - perhaps someday I'll get my act straight. Do appreciate your help. caveman

Start by following the author's suggestions. Each service comes with his suggestion as to whether to turn it off or leave it on. Then check out
BlackViper's suggestions (note: BlackViper.com is still temporarily down).
There are only 4 or 5 services that are absolutely necessary to run Windows. I have mine down to about 6 for "gaming mode".

It's always good to know if I turn off something that's needed I can re-boot and try again. You're down to 5 or 6 huh ? That will be my goal. Thanks again. caveman
