Display issues....

Postby FLAPS_DOWN » Tue Oct 18, 2005 10:07 am

I am noticing as I browse through screenshots that my display is not anywhere near as crisp as those I see.  I think my machine is set up enough to be bringing a pretty realistic picture, but it just insn't happening.   I max out my display settings but the game still comes through pretty "linear" not smooth at all.  Here is my PC configuration:

FS2002 Pro
Intel P4 3.0Ghz
1GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 533Mhz
128 PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X300 SE
160 GB HD @7200 RPM

Any ideas or suggestions or directions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

- Turn on AA (anti aliassing) on your video card (not in the game).
- Set everyhing to maximum.
- Compare to my FS 2002 shots and see how much better yours are  :(

- Or just go and buy FS9.  :P

Excellent, I will try that.  Can you explain the nuts and bolts of what that does.  As you can see, as a relative noob I am trying to educate myself on how it all works.

Do you mean AA? Look it up in the FS dictionary in the FS 2004 forum.

Hmmmm... where's the dictionary?  ???
Anyways... Anti Aliassing makes diagonal lines look straight instead of stairs. (You don't see the pixels as clearly anymore)

Went in and my Anti Aliasing box was already checked.  Should I uncheck it and try again, or something else? ???

Your Anti Aliassing "box"?
Was that in the game setings or in your videocard settings?

On the video card settings.  I fooled aroun with it quite a bit last night, and I think I have it corrected.  There are a number of different settings to choose from with the video card, and it is a little confusing.  For example, the scenery and planes are showing great, but the ATC box fonts are now changed.  So I am working on correcting that.  I will try to post some screenshots to show you what I mean tonight.  Thanks for your help.

It looks a ton better!  Give me some input though, is there something else I am missing?  Feedback please.  Also, you can see in the ATC window the font has been squeezed from it's normal size.  Any ideas on that one?  Again, thank you for your help.

The font might be smaller because you increesed the resolution. (did you ?) Nothing to worry about, you can still read it, can't you?

Did you set all the sliders in the display options menu to the right? I had expected to see a lot more buildings, but maybe this area isn't that densely populated...

Your shots look fine though, it's about the best FS 2002 can do. Try putting in some clouds to fill up the sky. For a nice effect to start with, create a very high cirrus layer with few clouds. (1/8 or 2/8)

Happy shooting!

Cheers,

Pigeon
