Sopwith addons

Postby G-EORGE » Sat Sep 17, 2005 12:52 pm

I'm currently taking a rest from 'commercial flying' and am hopping around airfields in Northern France in a Sopwith camel.  Can anyone suggest any good add-ons (e.g. lines for aircraft.cfg or simple downloads) that will make the flying a bit more interesting....?

Im ideally looking for realistic stuff, not radar, missiles etc.  Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

You could download David Eckert's new Sopwith Camel.
Do a search for camel04.zip.  It is reported to be for FS2004 only but it works beautifully in FS2002 (although you might want to alter the spring rate and damping for the tailskid if you're picky).  It really is absolutely fantastic and makes my best work look like a cartoon.     :^}

I installed the aircraft and it all looks great , however when you come to actually fly the thing, she constantly rolls to the right.  I had a look in sport plane view and it would appear that the ailierons are set for banking to the right.  my joystick works properly with all other aircraft and elevators and rudder work properly, so i dont thinks its that.

can anyone shed some light on the matter?

Thanks

btw, any of you with an interest in real commerical aviation, i'd recommend registering on the Professional Pilot's Rumour Network (www.pprune.com)  Theres forums for all aspects of commerical flying and it really is quite interesting to read whats going on in the skies on a daily basis.  (Sorry if everyone's known about it for ages...)

Update. I installed the Camel to FS2002. It seems perfectly normal to me. Maybe you're just not used to flying single-engined props.

OK thanks, I'll have another try and go a bit easier on the throttle.

Talking of throttles, most WWI rotary-engined aircraft had no throttle at all & the engine had to be 'blipped' to control the revs from an ignition cutout switch on the joystick. It was either flat out or stopped with no in between. The engine kept rotating due to the flywheel effect & some engines had a feature where the ignition was cut to all except one cylinder. I believe the Camel was one of the few to have a rudimentary throttle but don't know how effective this was.

Dave Eckert's Camel behaves very well & the trim change between tickover & full power is very noticeable. I had a lot of fun trying to duplicate blipping the engine with the F1 & F4 keys. Very nice indeed. ;)
