Autopilot Approach

Hi All

If I push the autopilot's approach button during an ils landing approach, the plane goes in line with the runway but does not change its altitude (meaning is not going down, which I think is essential for a landing   )
This is plane independant. Does anybody have the same problem and/or has even a solution?

Its probably because you intercepted the ILS beam too late or too high, heres (probably) the best way of landing an ILS approch
Come in at about 5 miles from the rwy, hold an altitude of between 2000 - 1000ft so when you approch the rwy you will have 4 red lights on the VASI, as you come in closer you will get closer to intercepting the ILS beam, your 4 reds will slowly turn to 3 reds and 1 white, when you get close to 2 reds and 2 whites, check your autopilot settings, your Alt hold switch should of turned itself off and you should be gliding nicely to land.

Unfortunately not. I'm going exactly into the approach path (altitude and direction), then turn off the altitude hold and then switch on approach on the AP (and yes level hold is turned off as well). Still the plane stays at the same altitude  ???

1. Make sure correct ILS frequency is tuned into NAV 1
2. Make sure once you are lined up with the extended centerline... That you turn APPR on and turn the ALT hold off, it should intercept and fly the glideslope...

Another thing, try adjusting your power settings (slow down).  This method seems to work for me...

Also an ILS must be an GS (glide slope) ILS or else it won't work.... they say.....  ;D

I got the same problem and also don't know what to do exactly......

Well... for those that don't know, ILS stands for Instrument Landing System... and always includes the glideslope... If you can obtain real instrument approach plates (NOS, in my opinion seems to be the best), they will tell you the procedures to be followed, in the event that the glideslope is out of service.

What do you mean with slow down? Slow down the simulation rate. Well, that's worth trying.

Just another thought, but you might want to try an airport that has a Catagory 3 ILS approach. Catagory 3 approaches are the only ones to my knowledge that support autoland. Just for grins, go to Atlanta International (KATL) and try to turn the autoland on runway 8L or 9R and see if it works.

Pull the power setting back, slow the airplane down... not the simulation rate.

I don't understand this thread. Why would you want to alnd on ILS? The landing is the fun-part! Or did you buy FS2002 for sight-seeing?  ;D
