panel problems

Postby tumut » Sun Jul 17, 2005 11:17 am

Hi all,  having just downloaded some new planes for fs2002 two of the jets have no guage panels.  The sound files and every thing else appears to be running well.  Please help....

1. RTFM.  It's possible they didn't come with panels.

2. Open up the panel folders and see what's in there.  Is there a panel.cfg and one or more .bmp files?

3. Post a link to the specific files.  Someone will download them and examine them.

Thanks Webb for your quick responce.  One of the panels has one file attached,  Panel.cfg only and the other panel file has one panel.cfg and one bmp file only.  Does this sound correct

You can examine the contents of panel.cfg with notepad and the .bmp file with MS Paint, Irfanview or other graphics viewer.

There should be at least one .bmp file in the panel folder, which provides the bakground graphic for the panel.  Panel.cfg then provides the instructions for the placement of gauges, etc. against the background.

If the panel folder has no .bmp is is possible that it is an alias, in which the panel.cfg file would look something like this:

[fltsim]
alias=b747_400\panel

in which the panel is aliased to the 747 panel.  If the 747 panel does not exist you, obviously, would not see a panel.  More on aliasing here http://www.simviation.com/lair/aliasing1.htm

To answer your question this sounds correct.  That still doesn't mean it will work.

Again, give the file name and where you downloaded it.

Worst case, if necessary, take a panel from another jet and copy it to the new ones.

But give us a crack at it if you will.i

The one with a Panel.cfg & no BMP is probably aliased to use an existing panel. Read my Aliasing article here. http://www.simviation.com/lair/aliasing1.htm

If the new panels display without gauges look for 3rd party gauges included with the aircraft. These will usually be in a folder (or zipfile) named Gauges. Open this folder, click Edit/Select All & paste the contents into the FS2002\Gauges folder. DON'T overwrite existing files/folders if prompted.
