Graphic Failure

Postby rafalbert » Mon Jul 18, 2005 2:32 am

Hi,

most likely others have suffered this (can't find a post anywhere), but I seem to have difficulty in getting the textures of many aircraft to appear on my pc. When I open the file to find out what is going on, all that I get is "drawing failed".  As a result, I can't use the aircraft in flight sim.

Help!

Yep, thats normal. The drawing failed thing, not sure why, does that. Install it and it will work fine. Have you tried installing it?

Hi Rafalbert - welcome.

Yep, that's normal if you try to open the texture bitmap just by double-clicking on it. It's saved in a 'special' .bmp format that adds an extra channel to the red, green and blue channels, for reflectivity, transparency etc. This means you can's open it in a 'normal' graphics program. If you use a freeware download called DXTBmp, this will open the file so that you can see the image, plus the extra channel (called an 'alpha' channel).

This has no effect of whether the texture is visible in FS, as FS knows how to display these files. Try installing one or two and come back if you still have problems.
