ok, i have two problems.
1. when i start a flight, i shut down the engines to carry out pre-startup checks etc. if i take too long about this, the power dies and anything powered by the battery (lights, panel etc) dies too, i have to start the engines to light evreything back up.
2. I've lost ATC callsing,s, the drop-down box on the aircraft menu wont drop down and ATC addresses me as Boeing G-HGST etc..
solutions to either question greatly appreciated
thanks

Hi George,
The lights are not your problem but MSFS's. The APU in FS2k2 isn't that well modelled. I had the same problem. But thankfully there is a way around this. FSUIPC by Peter Dowson has an option of Infinite Battery. The current version for FS9 is payware, but the older versions for FS2002/2000/98 are freeware. Check SimV in the Misc. files. Version 2.73, I think, should be fine. It is freeware.
The callsigns are limited in FS2002. You need to get a program called EditVoicePack. Although I've never used it, I would say its pretty good because it has alot of features which ensure you have enough call signs that are accurate and are actually spoken by the ATC

Hope this helps,
Ashar

thanks chaps, i've got the callsigns working but haven't been able to find the infinite battery thing yet, i suppose i'll just have to live with it, it seems that M$ left quite a lot of detail out as regards ground ops - taxi signs, apu's etc. never mind!

For FSUIPC 2.xx
Alt -> Modules -> FSUIPC
Technical -> Additional facilities
Check "Extend battery life" and put 0 in the box.

FSUIPC.dll application interfacing module . FSUIPC is effectively a successor to FS6IPC.dll. Both modules are designed to allow external (i.e. separate) programs to communicate with and perhaps control Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Get it here
http://www.simviation.com/fs2002utilities_ess1.htm It comes with instructions. This version is fine for FS2002 and it's free. Version 3.x is required for FS2004 but it's payware and will not add any FS2002 functions.
More information at the FSUIPC Home Page

For the electrical 'problem' you could make an additional entry in the aircraft.cfg file:
[Electrical]
electric_always_available =1
Of course you have to do this for each aircraft, whereas
FSUIPC takes care of all of them.

Interesting, Dave, I wasn't aware of that.
I don't want to scare George away from FSUIPC, though. It is the single most valuable addon there is and after he gets it and sees how easy it is to install and all he can do with it he'll wonder how he ever got along without it.
