Illegal????

I was going over some old postings and came across one where someone had somehow lost a gauge. He asked for someone to e-mail him the particular gauge. A person responded saying that to e-mail the gauge would be illegal.

Would someone please explain to me how e-mailing a gauge to someone who inadvertantly lost his would be illegal?

If it is in fact illegal,  I would be interested in knowing by what authority such an act would be illegal.

That would fall under the copyright laws, the same laws that make it illegal to copy and distribute movies or music. (There are particular laws regarding doing so over the internet/electronically)

In particular, if the missing gauge is a default FS9 gauge, the copyright belongs to MS. The same would hold true of any
