That *&% 3rd party software error

I have always been able to fix this but this one has me stumped.

After installing WinXP SP2, reinstalling FS and copying my aircraft & gauges files I get the da**ed "3rd party software error" message when trying to access the FS2000 F-117 - this one http://www.simviation.com/fs2000military13.htm.

The error says the .mdl file is incompatible - not a gauge or the fssound.dll problem (I have the oldmodules fixed in fs2002.cfg).

I have other FS2000 and even a couple of FS98 .mdl's that work fine - what's the problem with this one?

I have reinstalled it from a second backup CD and from a new download - same problem every time.

I note this is an early FS2000 model. It's possible the MDL file is incompatible with WinXP & the problem is nothing to do with FS2002. Try patching the MDL file with the MDL Repair Utility here. http://www.simviation.com/fs2002utilities_ess1.htm

PS. As it's a small file I'll check it out later. I'm on WinMe so won't be able to tell if it's one of the models I mentioned above. I would expect no problems with Shigeru Tanaka's stuff. Is there not a more up-to-date version of the F-117?

Thanks Doug.

I wasn't even aware that utility existed.  It fixed it right away.

There is a more up to date version of the F-117 but I like some of the older models because they are smaller files - and the F-117 is just a black box.

You're welcome Jim. Glad my suggestion worked.
