GPS Rang Rings

Wonder if someone could fill me in on the use of range rings when using GPS.  Probably staring me in the face, but can't work out the distance they represent.  My Garmin 12 adjusts the scale according to the map settings, but range rings in Sim seem to stay constant but just take up less or more screen when changing overall map scales. ???

Dizzydave,

The GPS that came with FS2002 has the outer ring labeled 40 nm.  So the two inner rings must be 10 and 20 nm.

However, when I'm flying with GPS (not often), it's rather obvious that the 40 nm ring is only 20 nm away.  I just check the DME when the outer ring crosses the VOR that I've tuned into NAV1.

Since I seldom use the GPS, maybe someone can straighten me out on this and tell me how to set it up correctly.  Otherwise, I assume it's a labeling error.

Regards,
JerryH

The rings are at 5, 10 and 20 miles.

The GPS can "see" about 25% farther in front of you than it is set, so if it's set at 100 miles you can "see" about 125 miles in front.
