Before I file complete my flightplan, I listen to the ATIS at the departure airport.  Then I complete the SID for the active, enter the STAR for the particular airway I am flying, enter a random arrival runway, save the .pln file, and upload into FS2002.

Since you are also flying IFR, ATC will vector you into the active runway.  If you are flying VFR, you can change the STAR and runway after listening to the arrival ATIS. Hope this helps.

one additional point...for me one of the main problems with FS2002 is the inability to step climb while in IFR.
